  • Hello guys,

This is Howard "Solo" Roy, maker of the Killer Quake Pack.

Wow I couldn't believe it's been almost 15 years since I wrote that compilation pack when I was in college.

Anyway, just saying "hi" to all you quake diehard fans out there!

          • Hello

Madmaniac here, old admin of the Capture the Scrag servers long ago (created by akev) just thought i would see how the old Quake 1 world was. If there is enough interest I may put up a Capture the Scrag server again, unfortunately the creator passed away but I have all of the source code.

Killer pack! I loved that mod a lot, even if last time I've played it was ages ago. I remember the awesome weapons: disc, vampire axe, magnum shotgun, air gun, laser, freezethrower (argh, it consumed tons of rockets), nuke, guided missiles, bfg etc... good old times
Anyway is time to introduce myself: my name is Marco, I'm 23 and I live in north of Italy. My first experience with quake was when it went out in 1996. After I've completed the first episode then I've discovered it was....shareware!! At time I didn't know about shareware, but finally for Xmas I've received the Quake 1 full version! Played that game a lot, then a friend bought the expansion packs and let me play them. Since I'm a real Quake maniac, a full game and 2 expansion sets weren't enough, so I've played many maps and mods. Never played multiplayer very much, except some times with a friend and lots of beers!

              • Jovial here. I played q1 from 1996-2000 with BH, DBD, TUSA, briefly with RUM in 2000.

I mostly played threewave ctf and was destroyed by my ancient cable modem at my parents house most of the time.

Trying to get back into playing some q1 from time to time... send me an email if you remember this old head.

                • You'll be happy to know we still have some 3wave games going on even today^^

                  • Howdy, I'm Miracle Man. I used to play back when Quake came out in the clan Red Blood 666. I now mostly play Doom online, but I love Quake's weapons and most all of the ID games. I have basic skills at spriting, but that doesn't do a whole lot of good with a game that uses 3d models!

                      • Hey Everyone!

                        Boy what a flashback!

Quake 1, in my opinion the greatest FPS ever made.

I started playing the shareware version in 1996-97 when Mplayer launched its Quake service (What happened to mplayer? they were the place for online gaming and were what Steam is today)

There was nothing like playing the first 7 maps for days and months! Then I bought the game since going 200-5 on House of Chthon was getting boring.

Eventually got the full version and I can honestly say that it was some of the best gaming days I've had in my life, got pretty good and won some local tournaments but I wish i was older so I couldve went to the bigger tourneys or atleast been on the west coast since there were so many good tourneys out there at the time.

Were those the good old days of FPS? At the first QuakeCon, Thresh winning Carmacks ferrarri.

Still kept playing Q1 and winning the local tourneys then when Quake 2 Beta/"Shareware" got released all of our clan made the jump and I never played Q1 since.

What has the Q1 people been up to? I see theres a bunch of skins and diffirent engines and new game modes, what happened to the Q1 Pro's like Thresh/Immortal? Last time I saw him playing a game was in Quake 2 when he was the top player in world and our clan got wiped the floor with him in a practice match.

Why do all these New FPS's focus on graphics and not gameplay? I wish I was 12-14 years old again and Q1/Q2 came out The best FPS'es ever created!

                        Sorry for rambling.

Anyone else get their start on Mplayer? or miss the feel of the old school quake 1 days. I dont know if we got older and are still clinging on to the past or what is it?

anyways, do people still play Q1? how packed are the servers and which game modes is it? How about Q2? anyone play Q2RA?

edit: oh yea, what do i remember? The Damn PHONE JACK ICON! damn LPB!!!!!!! I was a HPB until I finally got DSL than the pwnage started , Could never win the Mplayer tourneys against the "gods"(the staff who you would have to play who all had 0-10ping), heh imagine people playing with a 100 ping today and being called a LPB?

                        • that was a crap load of name drops ^^^^

I am SpaZ, or pretty much any other random alias that popped onto a DM/CTF/CA server pinging over 300. I now ping 200+ on US servers, wooohooo, although I do ping 100 on euro servers. Well shit, 14 years ago I started playing quake, so about when I was 10. Don't remember exactly where I started playing ages ago, but I do remember one called quake.dredd.net I used to DM on all the time. Then to CTF where I learned even more camping skills than I did in DM. And now CA where I can do all the camping I want and not have to go find a gun or worry about lagging and killing myself 20 times a game. annnnd you're all gay <3

btw whatever happened to Sheryl.... she was a hot philipina quake player

                          • I'm Gypsy and I started playing quake in 96 when it came out. It was a short lived hobby cause at that point in my life I didn't give a crap about video games/consoles/computers. Time went by (maybe 7 or 8 years) and I got back into quake when i was reintroduced to it through a friend of mine. We played a bunch of Quake Arena but neither of us knew anything about the possibilities of modding. I was interested in flash programming and because of that slowly faded away from Quake again as I got more involved in mastering (at the time) AS1. I got a PSP a few years later and got hardcore into SOCOM FTB1. My two hobbies became FTB1 and Programming in (then) AS2. Years went by of me PWNing Noobs in FTB1. I was in [777] (still am) and I had a lot of great times. But after 5 years of playing the same 6 maps over and over on top of dealing with jack ass hackers, I finally retired from FTB1 (probably for good). I was looking for another game to play and it went something like this.

                            1) go back to old games - got the n64 emulator
                            2) got a bunch of roms and was bored with them all in like 2 minutes
                            3) was searching a rom list and saw quake
                            4) didn't work on n64 emulator (lots of issues - see through walls and stuff)
                            5) got annoyed and did the research to get quake on PC. (I paid for my copy in 1996 so...)

Throughout all that I found way more information than I intended to and wound up "making" quake instead of playing it.

                            • Been trolling these forums for a while now, just amazed at how strong the community for Q1 is. I played it years ago, but since have moved on to other things. However, I am absolutely loving my return to Quake with the darkplaces engine. I have two configs, one for a faithful representation and my 'eye candy' config that has all the bells and whistles turned on.

I am also a programmer, so I am very interested in possible getting my hands dirty a bit. I usually don't do much with games but I have had some graphics programming experience. Seeing as Quake 1 engines are still being maintained, perhaps there is some room for me to experiment.

At any rate, glad to be here. I really enjoy the site, its been a great help!

Well, chief, if you want to learn coding for Quake --- either engine or QuakeC or mapping (which can in fact resemble coding, with event triggers and such) .... Inside3D is your place (you'll notice a fair bit of developer overlap with this place). Inside3d Forums :: Index

If you just want to make graphics, models or textures. Well, you can pick up some of that Inside3D.com but it seems that this is the place for that with Quake Reforged Quake Reforged and a ton of texturer and modeler types releasing stuff here.

                                Welcome to the forums.
