  • Hi , I'm Mindz!!

I've always played quake since its release, and even got to play BETA at my local retail outlet, cuz the electronics manager was G like that and had me hooked on Quake before it was even released!! Got it for christmas, spent a year or 2 playing Single Player, and then around 1998 some time I went in search of ONLINE gaming, and found it through the use of GameSpy3D and used that for a very long time.

Mplayer didn't suit me I sucked back then, but I quaked onward moving around here and there randomly clicking servers looking for the one that spawned me with WEAPONS to start with, it was easiest

I never really left Quake, aside from the rare and brief break from Quake, for the most part I've been heavily active in the online NetQuake server's all throughout the years, at various servers and mod's.

I spent early days playing IHOC mod, using JetPacks ,basic Runes and Hook. Everyone called us newbs for playing a newb mod, but we had a blast and Clans was very popular back then (1998-2003ish), and use to be a main stream mod. Some people was say I had a hand in diminishing or killing off the IHOC experience, but I was young arrogant and didn't know better back then......

    (2003-PRESENT)

I really became a active quaker, and aided in the resurrection of project headed up by r00k and Bam, Clan Arena X, to effectively replace the outdated, lack of custom map support, CAplus. Through the years I have expanded my horizon's to other mods normally I wouldn't think twice about playing, like CRMOD TDM, or 3wave,as I normally stuck to ID1 maps only server's, and frowned upon having to download anything at all for my Quake. Through constant persistance in remaining a key player in the netquake servers in north america has led me to being an admin on most netquake server's, and continue to provide valuable feedback and quality control on the server's, keeping trouble makers out of the servers when need be, like kimp. I have recently convinced MrsMindz to play quake competitively online with me, and now Quake is more fun than it has been in years with the LAN style gaming going on here on the server's. Keep an eye out for us!

        • Hello

          Hey Guys
My name is Sam Boswell, I used to play Quake back in 1997 and would love to find a downloadable version where I can play online, I'm sure there is a link on here so i'll have a look.

I'm also doing a bit of coursework on the game, I was just wondering if anyone knows where I can find some reviews of the game and the impact it on the FPS world, or any good forum chat about what mark the game has made.

          Many thanks.

                      • Introduction and server address

Fine fraggin' greetings to all the other Quakers here. Nice to know you.

My name is Chris (aka Dark Helmet) and I started Quaking in 1996 as soon as the retail CD was available at my local store.

I have been running a Quake server for years, and will probably continue to do so until the end of time; I just like to. You can find my quake 1 server (CTF 3.3.12+) at "quake.nctech.ca"

Oh yes, I did look around, and I couldn't see a place to make the request, so I'll make it here and risk being yelled at. hehe. I would certainly like it if the admin(s) would add my server to the list. Thanks

I am a sci-fi, computer, tech geek, always have been always will be.

Cheers to you, and happy fraggin'
                        Dark Helmet

                            • There's constantly new posts on this thread by new users, and I'm loving it. 700 replies is a lot to read through, so I guess I'll throw up a new introduce myself being I've never really done a good one

My beginnings of Quake were on quake.cis.net (Palace of Hate) as far as online goes, this was a local isp. My best friends Dad built and sold computers and when I purchased one it came with the brand new Quake which we had tried beta's of earlier, needless to say I fell in love. Originally it was my two brothers and I who would share the same 14.4 connect (I was 12 years old) staying up till all hours of the night taking turns.

I found countless servers online and most were FFA DM at the beginning of Quake. For the life of me I can't remember the server name but it was always 16/16 players and it was the Start map over and over again. This was of course before 3wave ever came out. I'm thinking it had no dns but was just an ip I had wrote down (among the TONS of other ips I had written down near the desk I'm sure you all remember doing this).

I fell in LOVE with Headhunters and played HEAVILY on quake.petronet.net, so heavily infact, that my parents decided to buy a computer desk that could lock up the cpu. This was frustrating. However, I had a skinny little brother with long arms named Skillet who, when our parents would leave, would reach his skinny ass little arm around the back, in through the hole for the wires, and up to the power button. Life was good again. Our parents would indeed come home and wonder they the hell the computer was so hot and how the hell we were getting it on. By this time our older brother had quit Quake, frustrated that it was one game we could kick his ass in. The name I used the most was Shit[TH]Happens on petronet headhunters.

I got better and better, and I was in countless clans that my best friend and I changed the name of daily. LM was one for "LynchMen". Don't really remember any more.

I started playing CTF with the key on public servers, and on other servers like quake.snowcrest.net , igloo, so forth and so on. Most any server you can think of I've played on.

Anycomp.com became my home server somewhere around 1997, where I became friends with Clan 420, as well, people like R00k, St00p and Lerster from NSN, and got introduced to the world of 3wave. You see, anycomp.com was just a public ctf key server owned by [420]BlackZombie and [420]Lago. I was on the server one day (still being a keyboarder), and showed interest in joining the Clan 420, or it's "partner" clan at the time [DH]. [420]Metallica right then and there introduced me to mIRC and 3wave. Few hours later I was playing my first 3wave map ever, CTF8, 1-1 verse [420]Metallica for a spot on Clan 420. Clan 420 was never a "top tier" clan in my opinion, but it was my introduction to and solidifying reason for staying in Quake for the long haul.

I basically never looked back on any other mods and strictly played 3wave until it started to dwindle hard and everybody started playing CA at clanberries, erols and such. My biggest contribution to Quake at this point was being a VERY active player, testing things people had coded and made on their own, etc. I had also learned how to be an admin by helping at anycomp.com and learned the basics of it.

CA was a long period of in my mind, just playing Quake to keep playing Quake and not really enjoying it. Everybody got really good at CA, it was just crazy. Tournaments were going down left and right, admin wars, server wars, flooding, etc, cheat clients came into play moreso than ever (even the infamous client that Clan Zero initially birthed to use in the CQL tournaments to win them.) If I remember, Sting was invited to join Clan Zero and was given the client, however, being the honest man he is, busted out Clan Zero for cheating. By this time they had already won the first CQL tournament, but either way, it was finally leaked out.

CAx was now on it's way, a mod of CA coded by R00k and Bam. Tested by many of us nightly till 3-4 a.m. The mod became the staple for CA, and is still in use today.

Somewhere in between all this I was the #1 dickhead of Quake. Maybe somedays I still am, I'm a competitive person. That phase passed.

In the meantime of all this, I was still again, helping test clients, blocking cheats, working on the better of the Quake community. We would take cheat clients, and playback demos to see who was REALLY cheating. Of course, some of them didn't enjoy this war we had brought upon cheaters. Oh well, fuck yall. Helping build maps, although I was never the builder, just always had insight and my insight seemed to always work well. By this time in the early 2000's I was also helping admin most servers that existed. I enjoyed this, as I got to know many players on a different level.

Nowadays, I am STILL a VERY active player, I do more playing than anything else. I guess I don't have a lot of "files" persay to show you on what I've done in Quake, but I've done a lot to help it reach this point even with just being behind the scenes. I've ran countless tournaments of all mods at one point or another and helped keep activity in the community. I'm like one of the linemen for Quake while the Running Back gets the glory I don't code, and I am just now learning QuakeC. With the help of Qrack I've done the biggest locations file release to date. I still admin most servers, and I also help Administrate this site.

So this is my introduction to you if you are new. And I am more than willing to help with anything needed. And if you are an oldschooler who runs across one of my old names and remembers me, get in touch with me with a private message! To the rest of you, let's fuckin get it!
