I havent logged in since 2006 lol. Got a bit nostalgic so came back to check in. I remember a lot of you guys. quake.hating was my server. Resistance was my rune. Brassmonkey you here??? Remember the SD Clan .. Dot, Scorp? lolol. Later at mtown when hating died. Unfortunately i used different stupid names when I played so you prob wont recognize me. If you remember DOGSHIT back from 1996 that was me.
Had fun times with r00k, st00pid, toiletduck, LER and plenty others. Frenz did you ever learn all that cisco stuff? Miss you guys, miss the gameComment

Hi,
I first played Quake when it first came out - DOS, software renderer and laggy network play via modem. The first *game* I ever played was probably an early version of Star Trek on a CP/M Z80 based S100 bus system. I have played *Colossal Caves* on a 15-mip IBM 3081 running VM/CMS at a times when such beasts cost a bajillion dollars and lived in vast air-conditioned caves of their own.
It messes with my head a little. My *router* is now faster than that mainframe. I've just now finished playing the Darkplaces + Epsilon + Seven rework of Quake 1 on a 64-bit (!) Suse laptop with 4Gb of RAM. If I could take it back to the 80s, it would cause the computer scientists of the time to throw major epileptic fits. I'm still waiting for that time machine, guys.
Thanks to everyone concerned for creating these mods and allowing me to kick Cthon's arse.
It kind of rocked.

hey pointybird, welcome to quakeone forums
allow me to tell you that this 'amazing epsilon build' you're using isnt the work of this metamorphosis (aka xolve here on quakeone forums) but that this 'super-build' is actually the work of a whole lot of people here on the quakeone forums which xolve aka metamorphosis repacked into one pk3 and pretended it was his work without even given any of the actual creators any kind of credit at all.
just try browsing the finished works part of the forums for fun:

and check out all the stuff people made. all the stuff in the supposed epsilon build is taken from these forums
perfect example of something you should be able to recognise right away,

and most of the stuff has been updated a whole bunch of times since metamorphosis released his supposed 'epsilon build' as well
(btw i didnt mean this in a bad way to you pointybird, but in a negative way to metamorphosis. you couldnt know that his 'amazing epsilon build' was actually just stuff he took here from quakeone forums )

and yeah, its funny how extremely heavy quake is now in darkplaces with all these advanced effects. even my comp has trouble maintaining a framerate above 30 at some moments, and i have a core i7 950 3.2ghz, a gtx580 and 12GB ram
so yeah, if this was released back in 96 when quake came out even the strongest comp back then would have choked trying to run it. or most likely fried even trying to start it
