Hi, I'm some dude who wants to learn modding but only made 1 or 2 test rooms in Serious Editor 1 so far with not much knowledge on how games work.

I want to ask you guys; From a neutral and unbiased standpoint, why map for Quake instead of DN3D, Half-Life, Serious Sam or even Quake 2 and Quake 3? What are the pros and cons of mapping for Quake?

I am new to the forum and it seems I have about the same experience as you.

was an original player in the early 90s when i was around 10yo haha.
i mostly played TF but obviously ffa,ctf "requiem" and a few others before TF was out.

im from australia.

just downloaded everything and was just playing on a customTF server as there was a few players there (32 at one point)

is there many other aussie players online ? wouldnt mind playing on an aussie sever with minimal lag.
but honestly just happy to be playing again .

cant believe this game is going strong after soo long.

Greetings. My name is James Lee McKigney and the first games I bought on steam was the Quake games with the Expansion packs. Although they (Quake 1) don't have the soundtracks due to rights complications, I decided to play them anyways.

I thought Quake was a spectacular game, the Fourth Quake fell flat when it comes to quality and now all that remains new is the MMOFPS known as Quake Live.

Now I am saving up for a HMD that allows me to experience the First Person Games and what I am looking at is a Sony HMZ-T3W. (Costs $1000, but I will be aiming for it anyways.)

I swear to abide by the rules and to be fair and to treat everybody as if they were me. In other words, be Excellent to each other and help other people out at all times.

New to the website!

Hey everyone! Just joined up. I have been playing quake off and on since release, and I would really like to get back into some DM! Been out of practice a bit, but it shouldn't be that bad getting back into it. Do alot of people still play on any specific servers? Any sort of mods I would need to really get back into it? I have been playing on the steam version modified with the ultimate quake patch.

Hello, Warbear; the only type of server that would require a download would be CTF, so you're already ready to go on any standard server listed on the front page. I'd say those that play crmod/dm regularly are more serious about the game, so perhaps tell them you're new to the mod. I don't ever play there since I'm terrible at that game type, so perhaps someone can better explain the expectations.

I have been in this community for 3 years, and I just realized I never made an introduce yourself thread. Might be a little late, but here it goes:

I am currently 15 (when I joined, I was 12. That's right, you got a youngster here!), and I am a huge fan of quake. Ever since I was little, I would watch my dad play Quake 3. Yeah, by the age of 5, I was a Quake fan. I had never played it, but it always looked so cool watching my dad play it. Fast forward 7 years. Now I am old enough to basically play whatever I want, as I had just got my first computer around this time. So the first thing I did was try and find all those games I watched my dad play and buy them. This included things like the Unreal Tournament series, Terminator Future Shock/SkyNET, Max Payne, etc. And of course, Quake 3. Now I had never seen any other Quake games except Quake 4, but I actually had played that and I was in the mood for older games. So, like the genius I am, I looked up all the older Quakes. I felt robbed of my child hood. How come my dad never played 1 or 2?! They looked so much cooler, and it even had a single player! I know, mind blowing. Anyways, I immediately bought it on steam, and have been playing ever since. I don't really do multiplayer, mostly because I can never find anyone on (actually that isn't true, the real truth is that I suck at Quake multi player, but you didn't read that, soo...)

Anyways, that's my 3 years long overdue introduction.

Hey-o everyone, new guy here. Started with Doom recently, made my way to Quake shortly after and ended up enjoying that more. I am a programmer through and through, but I also enjoy drawing and 3D-modeling cartoon characters.

I like to run cool games on under-powered hardware for unknown reasons. I play more on PCs, sure, but stuff like Saturn Quake and N64 Quake 2 is awesome to me. I get more pleasure out of it than actually playing the games.

Before I became an old-school FPS fan though, I was (and still kind of am) a Nintendo/Sega/Playstation kid, so I hope you guys don't mind

So, I'm Sgt-PieFace. Some of you may have seen me at shmack rune quake, as I do most of my quaking there.

For those of you (so, most of you) who don't know me, I started quaking about two years ago. Like I said before, I do most of my quaking on shmack rune quake, but I am start to play on some other servers, in game odes like DM and CA. Hard for me, but I had some nice people (Mindz, Gem, & Jbone) start to show me the ropes.

I would like to get into missing or map development, but I don't really have the knowhow. I do write and edit music, so I at least have that, and I have a piece on Cobalt's tekbotctf+ server if anyone want music for a mid or server, leme know XD

Anywho, I'm from Toront Ontario, in Canada and just injoy quaking, as well as lots of other games!
