Couple of days ago a simple thought popped into my head, which I also had a while back, but I wanted to know what you guys would think of it.
Anyway, here's where I got my idea: Anyone remember the Space Hulk games? Those extremely tense and suspenseful Warhammer universe strategy games based off of board games, made into a FPS/RTS hybrid with a heavy horror element? That's what I'm thinking of.
Here's some videos for those unfamiliar with it:
VotBA (Sequel)

Original (DOS and Amiga)

They were some of the scariest games I've ever played, mostly because the constant suspense from how the aliens, or "Genestealers", can come from any point in large numbers and swarm you unless you adequately command your men. And also the fact that the genestealer AI was pretty damn smart, too.
Anyway, enough about the game, here's my idea. Basically, Quake Hulk. It would revolve around pitting a group of slow moving, heavily armored marines under the players command tasked with objectives against swarms of aliens in claustrophobic spaces. Objectives would range from sealing off entry points, to flaming rooms, to planting explosives, etc. It could have Coop too, so each squad member could be a player, maybe even have a designated squad leader to give them orders. Also, the horror and tension elements would be a big factor in it, I.E. the intelligent Aliens would be powerful enough to destroy you at close range, so you have to keep them at bay with your weapons which have the possibility to Jam.
What do you guys think of the idea? I know, not very original, but it could make for some interesting gameplay in Quake. If we were to ever make it, we could have a Quake-ified version using Quake monsters like fiends and such, and I am learning modelling (which I'm not too bad at) so maybe later models based on Space Hulk could be implemented.
