what is the command to allow downloads "in game"... I tried cl_allowdownload but that didn't seem to be the right solution. I connected to bomber a minute ago and it was running a map I didn't have. I want to know if I can download the map from the server when I connect to it... thanks...

    Hi Dilli

I'm no Quake expert but I believe it partly depends on what client you have (it doesnt work on all of them), What download url u have specified (so your quake client knows which server to look at in order to get the map) and what map you you are asking for (not all download servers have everymap in existance although the admins do a fine job.

Proquake, EngineX and Qrack seem to do this automatically and thankfully fairly seemlessly, At least they do for me every time . If you use proquake try ensuring that your cl_web_download is set to 1 and your cl_web_download_url is set to either bigfoot.quake1.net or your local dl server if you are in the USA. This might help .

This wont work on every server but bigfoot has a bit of extra "magic" (thanks Peg) that others dont have you could try going to bigfoot.quake1.net and if you come across a map you dont have try typing the following in your proquake console
    Code:
    say !getmap -proquake
At least you will see if it is possible to dl to your client via a second method.

    Hope this helps
