So, i haven't played any Q in about 1.5-2 years now and wanted to play some CAx or even DM (even if it means getting raped). do people still play that shit? What should i install (proquake, qrack, etc) and can anyone help with all the settings?

download a engine of your choice.

you can google Qrack,DirectQ,and ProQuake and you'll find your way to each respective site's content.

The download section of Quakeone.com tends to be outdated compared,including the regular Qrack website. R00k can get you a link

Unless your on vista or 7 then try Directquake.

proquake dx8 is what im usin, directq was better than anything else until i tried this proquake.....do you remember your config from when u used to play, i would work on that first, and google frenzys locs for quake1 and get your locations, best way to get help is to just join a server and have a fellow quaker help you out with tweaking your shit.

I'm on W7 64-bit, running a GTX 260. why is it that when i open up Q, it changes the gamma for my other monitors (they all get really washed out).

I have an old config file for Qrack that i forget who i got it from, can i use that w/ a newer version of Qrack? dayams Rook is still at it, awesome... "uh oh, that's not good" (that was him right?)

People still play loco, my best advice is to use the client that you used before you took a vacation, and try a few on the side just to see if you like them better these days. and welcome back*
