    It needs resources that the shareware version doesn't have, so it simply won't work. The version error is because of a change in the BSP format - again, that simply will not work.

    I'm very sure there are Quake engines that run on DOS/Windows 98. If this is really your problem, search at inside3d or ask the user leileilol there.

    There is no patch or crack to make quake registered because you're missing pak1.pak. This is where all the other levels and stuff is in. So there will be no other way then buying one. You could often get it off eBay for less then 5$ or via Steam.

    Quake questions

    Is there a way to make shareware quake
    think it is a registered, a hack of some sort?
    Because I try to load maps with 1.06 and
    get "map couldn't spawn" error.
    And with Quake version .91, yes, that's right,
    the early version how can I load maps -
    it keeps saying 'version 29 map,
    should be 28'

    THE REASON i use really old Quakes is because
    only they run on my Win98/dos box!
