It needs resources that the shareware version doesn't have, so it simply won't work. The version error is because of a change in the BSP format - again, that simply will not work.
I'm very sure there are Quake engines that run on DOS/Windows 98. If this is really your problem, search at inside3d or ask the user leileilol there.

There is no patch or crack to make quake registered because you're missing pak1.pak. This is where all the other levels and stuff is in. So there will be no other way then buying one. You could often get it off eBay for less then 5$ or via Steam.

Quake questions
Is there a way to make shareware quake
think it is a registered, a hack of some sort?
Because I try to load maps with 1.06 and
get "map couldn't spawn" error.
And with Quake version .91, yes, that's right,
the early version how can I load maps -
it keeps saying 'version 29 map,
should be 28'
THE REASON i use really old Quakes is because
only they run on my Win98/dos box!
please, seriously and Thanks a lot!

edit--- i did buy quake once from ebay and
once from steam, so...Last edited by Wally; 10-14-2011, 02:21 PM.Tags: None
