Sometimes i play frogbots and omicron bots because there is simply no one on other then shmack which is one
Mod that ive seen stay busy and i dislike trying to kill people that have a power to kill you with a rune from across the map and out of sight. Ctf,ca,dm,tf are mods that can keep interest and your mind focused for hours if you find the time to actually enjoy it.

Thats time.
I have limited time, so I play what I enjoy the most.
I was mostly CA for years, would love to play that more and try CTF and whatever else but simply dont have the time learn or play other mods.
I like to get in there play games and done.

It's a spectacular game, but I don't think it's community handled the game as well. While infamous, it might partially die out.
However, the DooM community is still thriving and well, with a ton of people.
Either way, Quake might survive or not, but the game will always be around.

It is an interesting social challenge.
Not easily solved. The game itself is spectacular, but one cannot play multiplayer alone.

I've seen this happen:
1. 3 or 4 players start playing something they like.
2. 5-6 players show up. NOT because they like playing what is going on, but because server has activity.
3. Someone initiates a vote to DM3 or some other mode or maybe they play and complain or start trying to organize a game of some other sort from the players that are there.
4. Game ruined. 3 or 4 players screwed.
I think part of the problem might be that players can play anything they want, versus servers only allowing players who like what is being played to participate. And if given enough time, it allows erosion of all mods because people can and will play their non-favorite mod because a server is populated, but not to the benefit of others that like the mod.
Since this isn't easily solved, the problem isn't easily solved.

Back when we 1st started playing Quake, we knew we were all noobs. But that didnt matter cause the experience of playing not just 1on 1 with someone sitting next to you, but against 15 other players in realtime over the internet.
I think either its egos or pure laziness that keeps people from trying new mods.
I used to be completely frustrated with DM. Everytime i tried to play, someone would beat me down into the dirt. But just as a few rage-quits would douse the fires of humility, i realized that "hey these guys over on DM are talking shit". So yes, im not on the upper 50% of the winning teams score but, just like any new mod/game your gonna suck. After a while things start to eat at u to try to prove yourself. And in the end, you just might have some fun.

Keeping quake alive.
I typically try not to get involved with alot of people on subjects but i have found one thing that bothers me. Quake not lasting past 2012-2013. As we all can hopefully agree on Quake is by far one of the best FPS games ever. Im seeing people leave the game because there favorite mod is or has died off. I believe that as a community of quakers and returning quakers still around should try and keep as many quakers as possible alive and active in quake. Yes this means sucking it up and actively playing all mods of interest. I personally love DM and nothing eles. I am as a team player wanting to play CTF, CA, TF (server coming soon) and any other mods to help keep the game alive and active. Some will feel That they only play mods they are good at and vise versa. Im down with whatever as long as i can frag and get fragged. DM CTF CA COOP TF.. Im here lets plays when i can.. Quakes quake no matter what mod it is. Lets stick together and play together and try to keep quake alive and bring new and old players to the game again. If you agree or disagree im sure the community would like to hear your input as everyone has thier choice of mods they prefer.
