  • Quake 1 Pre-Release?

I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the Quake 1 Pre-release (Beta) That was more or less Leaked to the internet?

And No, I'm not talking about QTest, as it wasn't leaked, nor did it have the entire alpha version of the game. I'm talking about the Quake Versions 0.8 and 0.9 that were available at one time, but now the download sites that had it are down. Also a torrent called "Quake Pre-release (Use with DOS-Box)" that was apparently active at one time, but now has no seeds and it seems the original file and/or the creator's computer no longer has it.

I'm a Quake 1 Fan like all of you guys here, and either of the 1996 Quake betas would make me very happy, and likely a good sum of the community too.

Well, yes, it's definetly a Novelty. But game Betas can be concerned as "Treasures" on the Internet if they're well sought after.
Plus, I wasn't asking if it will be Worth it, I just want the Beta(s) alone. But Thanks for Responding

I played a very early version of Quake, and the fucked up thing was it didn't have the Start map. The very first version of Quake I played, only had a text based selection of Episode 1 through 4. I didn't play it on my own PC, my dad's boss was the manager of a walmart electronics, and at this time walmart constantly had demo PC's running with epic amounts of software loaded, showing off capability's. I played three games that I could never get enough of like this, 1]Load Runner , 2] Jurassic Park , and 3] Quake.

Load runner,I eventually found atleast A version and quickly tired of that game, The Jurassic Park games to this day I can't figure out what it was called exactly, other than it was BUNDLEware with a PC at my local walmart in my hometown. I bet if I tried again I could find it, or atleast what it was who made it etc.

When I recieved the store bought version of Quake for christmas ,and the damn thing loaded the Start Map automatically, it through me for the loop because in all the times I killed time in electronics fn with the display PC's games, the startmap never occured. It was just some shitty menu text. I never saw that version of Quake ever again, they all had start map.Maybe it was a pirated copy loaded,IDK. Too young to recall

I had a copy of this version once, years ago. If memory serves it had the full Dismal Oubliette, a totally different End map, and many of the maps (I seem to recall particularly those in e3) were very fragmentary. Can't remember where I got it, no idea what happened to it, but it really wasn't worth bothering with and in any event it would be quite illegal to post it for downloading. And no, it doesn't matter that it's a pre-release version of an old game, the law is still the law.

                Not Exactly, but... Yes

So from what MH says, the Quake 1 Pre-release never Got an All-Clear for copyright laws after all this time. Damn, I wonder what will happen to those who already own it.

Oh, so does it mean that, while not exactly legal, the Developers really don't give a sh about its' Distribution?

Still Searching for the Quake Pre-Release Guys, nothing exists when it comes to a download, so I'm completely Dependent on You 'ers.

I've found a Link to both of the Quake Beta's, and they are Bloody Brilliant! I found them on this Website called "3D Shooter Legends", under the 1996 Games Section. No links will be posted since admins are very cautious about Illegal links, and I would do the same.

You've done some very interesting research here. But, yeah, we can't have illegal links in the forum.

I am going to news the video of the beta end map. That is very interesting. I had no idea the original end map concept didn't work out.

                        The end map was strange!
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Cool as! I also just found there might be another version; 0.92

It is mentioned in this doc:
                          http://www.gamers.org/docs/FAQ/quakefaq/qfaq.txt

                          Can anyone else confirm this?

                          Cheers

Well, at least now we know where to look. I'm just Surprised that it's still Illegal after all these years. Thanks for Reading (all those who read, ofcoarse )

Thanks for Posting this on the News, you're Aweosme

The Beta 0.8 Demo can be downloaded without Legal Issues, as it contains only Beta versions of Episode 1 like Shareware does. I'm still sticking with how Admins approve of this, and no links will be Posted. Sorry about that
