    Ok. I know we're not yet complete with freezetag but amid the many complaints and my desire to try and code a flavor of cax, what do people feel about the quakelive mod "domination."

    I tried it in WoW and was fun. Haven't tried in qlive but maybe play with it for cax.

    no clue what it is, but i'm always up for something fresh. at least to try. wish the shaftjump would've stuck.

        IIRC, Domination has key points in the map that a team must stand near for a certain amount of time while shooting off players, and then capturing that point. If a team has all the points under their control they win. BF3 has something similar. But again, these are types of gameplay where u have 32 people on the server, not 4. I played domination on QuakeLive, it was kinda fun.

          Seems like a lot of work for something so far fetched from Quake.

          Technically FreezeTag is just "Revive" Quake. This is probably why I love it. It is not incredibly different from my favorite SOCOM mode (captive). Which (not to poo poo your thread) brings me to a possible solution to a freeze tag dilemma. People were "complaining" that the wait time to thaw is bullshit. In SOCOM (captive mode) you have to run over your team mates body and a centerprint instructs you to press square to revive. This would add a hair of challenge vs simply touching your team mate to revive while eliminating the ?5? second wait. In order to make it even a hair more challenging, when frozen the team mate could be SOLID_NOT so it isnt like you have the clue of not being able to move to time your revive (thaw). You could actually run straight through your teammate and miss the "window" to thaw. Quake is faster than SOCOM so this could actually prove to be quite challenging in the heat of battle.

          There was another SOCOM feature that you might want to consider. When dead, you could cycle through your teammate views and watch them play. I noticed that Quake (not freeze tag) sorta has an opposite thing where you follow around the guy that killed you. I'd rather watch my team fight and be able to cycle to any team member that is still alive. This also adds the fact that I cant give away where the guy that just killed me is or is going. Not really a big deal in Quake I guess, but it's something to consider.

              I play Domination on Black Ops 99.9% percent of the time!

              I'd love to see a Q1 Domination mod! Though the maps would need to be carefully picked or else you get major congestion and camping.

                  But to Rook's point, we'd need more than a 2v2 setting.

                    MG pressing space will cycle through players when u cam them. There's an admin option to force players to Only cam their team.
                    Bruce what code base are u using? Original quake 1.06 has a lot of bugs

                      I need to sync up with you on how I should start.

                      I've need reading tutorials but I get lost. I'm wondering if I could just look at your code for cax and freezetag an begin.

                      I have 0 game programming xp as I spend all my time in corporate apps.

                      I'd like to get familiar with the multiplayer aspect because I'd eventually like to modify server code to track stats.

                        The thing with stats tracking only needs support on the server to be able to write data files. This is possible, through QuakeC but breaks Proquake Servers.
                        Darkplaces (again) would be the golden egg for servers.

                        I can offer you a bare bones server template. I even started working on an open source multiplayer quakec mod once last year but stopped after players migrated away from TDM.
                        People gawk at how Darkplaces isnt Quake but, who cares really today when we have less than 20 people playing. Time to change the record, the song is getting old...
                        You can still use any client to connect to a DP server, and benefit from a ton of advancements. FTE too!

                          say whuttttt? i don't hate it. i've been giving feedback on how to make it better from the start. i just hate 2v2 freezetag. i always play tag.

                            What does space need to be bound to? My config.cfg is 100% custom and I eliminated default.cfg.

                              Oh, +jump it doesnt matter the key just the +jump will switch players and +attack switches modes. (unless i have that backwards)
