You never told me I couldn't share them and when I realized my error I DID apologize to you and you stated we were still square. Old water under the bridge anyway as far as I'm concerned.

see above..I do not expect a repositiry but nor do I expect someone to cry fowl when that material is reposted. If I angered sean then why pull it for everyone else or complain when it is shared.

It is meant as a compliment not slighting. Sean got angry over people asking for his material and then flips me off in a public forum for assisting in sharing previously posted stuff finished or not. And I'm sorry this plea of crediting people by Sean is not correct as he has done the same mistake I did as has many others. If you apologize why beat a dead horse?

I empathize with you in how people behave very poorly at times and also don't because the GPL license agreement under which the particle font in question grants an explicit right to share.

I mention the 2nd part because the ONLY thing that keeps the larger Quake communities a decent place (versus the shitty places that many other games represent where the particpants argue and fight over the most ridiculous and insignificant selfish things imaginable) is that many people in the community do believe in the GPL and the importance that it plays [i.e. Quake would have been dead].

DarkPlaces --- that is 12 *years* worth of engine modification by LordHavoc, as an example. And the source code is provided freely.

The Reforged guys put the Reforged skins under the GPL. Tons of people have modified the Reforged skins and that explicitly permit and encourage that, as an example.

Some people rise above: LordHavoc, MoonDrunk, Alfader, Nergal, the past contributors to QRP and hell of a lot of other people. Nahuel, Seven share QuakeC sources codes for effects, as an example. John Romero released the Quake map sources in 2006.

Sure there are petty people, people that do bad things. There always have been. The fact that this game has a such a large body of work behind it isn't because of bad people, though.

I don't know, I hope you can see what I'm pointing at. But I'm not always right about these things ...

The author contributed of a big super-high quality texture set to Nexuiz And he open sources his Q3 maps, etc.

There are decent and just people all around us, if only you take a moment to look and see it ...

Again jeff, I never uploaded some of the files you gave splitterface to put in his thread...I know that if someone was nice enough to send me test
work, I would never go and upload it without asking. Any objection raised and I'd remove it immediately.

Yes I've used some Reforged skins, but they are ripped from severel textures ive found on google. Here is most of the ogre skin taken right of this concept art.

Sean believes you gave her something else as he posted and that is what this is about,whether he is correct or not that is why he went viral.As for his other skins work you now feel you have a right to,if he did not distribute them you have no right to them.There is no
law saying he must provide a repository for released work forever either.

As for the GPL issue,more than 1 person may work on something as a team an as such be a single entity subject to approval by the groups leader for distribution.Even if that is not technically/legally correct it is ethnically to be expected from anyone out of common courtesy.Anyone would expect the same and it is no big mystery.

A distribution is giving someone a copy of a modification you made. The GPL exists as a copyleft agreement granting others the same rights to modify and share a work as you received.

If you distributed a modification of a GPL licensed asset to someone, you are granting them the right to re-distribute it or make modifications to it.

That is the freedom that the GPL provides, which is why I've always loved the Nexuiz project. And virtually everything I've made is licensed under the GPL including stuff like the RQuake entrance map, the Undergate map, the Rocket Arena gateway, maybe other things I have forgotten.

The reason I suspect this is because I've been somewhat upset and disappointed before over projects that modified my PSP engine say they aren't releasing the source code or getting mad with each other over sharing the source (which they are supposed to do) and it always made me think "WTF did I bother to enhance the PSP engine just to have people not honor the GPL?"

Which is part of the reason I have little interest in making further modifications to my past PSP engine project, because I hate to see it get misused by those that don't deserve to have it.

Which ironically is why I can relate to how Sean feels.

Why would they be mad at him? He did in fact release his work.
What in fact may upset the authors is what amounts to defacing their work by distributing broken or unfinished product with their names on it.

At the risk of continuing a petty bunch of bull, there was nothing "beta" that was shared at all. Sean shared stuff and then made up his own mind to pull his stuff..HIS choice. He felt nobody wanted his work??? What about all of the positive comments he is still getting in this thread..again NOT true. He wants people to kiss his ass and can be quite nasty with people when he wants. He speaks of "honor" but I couldn't get past the "attitude". I have tried to see his view many times and just can't at all! He is bitching because material that was posted long ago and the links died was shared without his permission. I even apologized for that and he claimed at the time he was fine and even shared some more material with me..which hasn't been shared and won't be due to all of this hoorah..
You are speaking out of your feelings and position which I respect bluntz, but any way you cut it Sean is wrong! It is his choice to cut and run and I want you to notice his baiting tactic of always reminding us how much he IS NOT sharing with us mere mortals. Don't get me wrong, he can create, but if he wants to quit like this I'm not going to stop him.

I'm totally done with arguing and am now am done defending my position as I know everyone has their opinion on the matter, but I was and am in the middle and I know the facts...at least from my perspective...just as Sean has his... which he displayed a few posts back to me and several others..there is the attitude.. Sean has standards that his work be finished to a certain degree of quality before it be published.He also had expectations that anything he was nice enough to share with someone beta under the table for testing not be posted without his permission,is that too much to ask from a person?
He left us before because he felt nobody wanted his work and now he left because all you guys are fighting over it before he was done with it,crying GPL,!!! GPL!!!
What a bunch of bullshit,put yourselves in his position and ask yourselves would I expect anything less for my hard work?
Sean never asked for anything from anyone but the credit he deserved, but gave 100% of himself to all of you for nothing.
