Chill out my friend
I liked Spiney's banners. However it would also be cool to feature some of the replacement models and textures made by the community, instead of just maps.

I had a long talk with Mindz in private. MOM can have the banner project. That way you guys can have one lickety-split. It was also brought to my attention that this statement sounds like I am saying I am so good and if you aren't as good as me blah blah blah
Let me be clear for anyone that thinks this. That list (if it was your only skill set) will not even guarantee you a real job as an IT. That's the most bare minimum skills to build anything on the net (except for maybe the javascript/jquery/JSON part, which even though that is 3 things, they are very related - they are all javascript).need to be able to work knowledgeably with all of this:
PHP
CSS
HTML
Javascript
JQuery
SQL
JSON (maybe XML, haven't decided)
It was also brought to my intention that this statement implies that I am demanding full "admin decisions" on the banner
I don't think that says that at all, but for anyone that reads it that way. I'm just trying to maintain control over my WIP and not have to worry abut "competing" projects popping up when I haven't even finished a beta.I'm just not going to spend any time making it work with vB til it is declared official that this is my project, always was my project and no one else is going to try to inject themself into it or beat me to the punch
I think I should have full rights to decide who I let help me with my code, it's my code. I should be able to decide the level of programming skills any helpers possess and I shouldn't have to "compete" with anyone, especially not someone that automagically pulls programming skills to get some kind of banner out of his hat AFTER I have already started the project that he had 2 years to start.
This has turned from something that I was excited to finish and share, into something I don't even want to talk about.Last edited by MadGypsy; 04-22-2013, 09:02 AM.

There's a saying: "Cooler heads will prevail", and I think that's what's needed here
Just from reading this entire thread I think some miscommunication along the way has happened, unintentionally.
That coupled with language translation barriers and differing personalities and well... it's understandable. Maybe all of you could take a step back and chill for a while, and then try to regroup with a plan and how to go forward with this as a cohesive unit instead of combating each other.
Jus' a suggestions peeps

Actually, you know what? I'm gonna fix this interpretation of who you claim I am, right now. There will not be a banner for plugging into this site, which is made by me.
problem solved.
Explain to me how I intend to make you kiss my ring or praise me now. That was some really stupid shit to say brah. I have worked so hard on what I have so far. I have gone over my code again and again and again because I know people that are better than me will have access to this code and I don't want to release something inadequate (nooby). I go through waves of being proud of my code to being ashamed of it and back. Every single solitary opinion here is something I am concerned and aware of. I have (had) a fire in me to make something really good for everyone that comes here. I do this because I really like this community and I want to contribute something unique. If this is a race, I forfeit. If I'm working on something that someone else intends to also build, then I'm not going to waste my time.
You want to talk about praise?! How about you back up a few posts and see where I explained that my idea will allow all those here that contribute and perpetuate this site to be recognized at the top of every page. I aint gonna lie brah - I want to fukkin smack you. I like you and I doubt I will hold aggressions toward you, but right now, I'm pretty disappointed in you. This bullshit that you are twisting up has me hot as fuck.Last edited by MadGypsy; 04-21-2013, 08:15 PM.

I dont care about credit, man. This is exactly what I mean when I posted earlier that I am finding it increasingly difficult to communicate with humans. You have pulled so many imaginary rabbits out of your hat that I don't even know where to begin.
I blame myself. I am apparently horrible at making myself clear or getting my point across. In lieu of that, I will leave you with this explanation, it is as good as anything else I could say.
Eep opp ork ahh ahh, nanu nanu shazbot, farfignewtons
You think that you and I are every day characters? Lay off the weed, bro. You have completely lost touch with reality. <3Mark is not your every day character like you or I.
Are you kidding me, man? Are, you, kidding, me? I'm not going to invest time in a project that is being done in multiple. I'm either working on this for you guys, or I am not. You got hella negative thoughts about me Mindz. It's like you don't even bother to take the last TWO years into consideration, you are determined that I'm some big douche bag. Thanks brah, I appreciate your support, man. Good job! I'd love to keep chatting, but I need to go focus on how I can amplify my doucheness. I mean after all, like you said, I'm not getting paid for this, but here we go with another 3 days straight of working on it. I need to finish this so 35 people that play the pac-man of 3d games can praise me and give my life meaning.So being hung up .........{all the rest of that paragraph}
"Oh lord Gypsy, we thank you for bestowing upon us a banner..."
Cause according to your fucked up logic, you think I expect that....and want it. {SMH}Last edited by MadGypsy; 04-21-2013, 07:57 PM.

Please don't be sticking statements like this in my mouth for me. I most certainly did not say that. I stated the type f people that I would be willing to let help me with my code. Maybe it wasn't clear, but when I say:If you can't do this and this and this, then you suck and shouldn't be coding.
How is someone going to beat me to the punch with something better (or equal) when I am technically 3 months ahead of them? There are programmers here that know waaay more than I do. I'm still 3 months of research and development ahead of them.try to inject themself into it or beat me to the punch with something that I promise you will not be as elite.
I never once made any accusation or opinion as to who in this world has the "right" to program.

one more thing , Mark is very eccentric. You'd have to have played Quake with him for many years to understand that sometimes, his intentions are NOT what ends up being translated....
Mark's version of saying Good Fight? "Mindz, you're just a G.I.R.L." .
I have chatted with Mark before on Ventrillo and I will tell you this ; It was very hard to understand his spoken english, and I understand why the typed english is sometimes broken. I'll go ahead and be the first to say these things, Mark is not your every day character like you or I.

Take a step back and look at it from this perspective , you're elitist mind set has pretty much said this ; If you can't do this and this and this, then you suck and shouldn't be coding.
I like the idea of you (or anyone) improving this website, but its turning quickly into something besides "Let me show you what I can do" into something more along the lines of people critiquing other people before ANYONE has really put out some solid examples to look at. All you guys are bitching over is tossed around idea's and pre-testrun efforts.
A lot of posturing about ones capabilities or touting how good or shitty anyones idea is,as we are all working torwards the same goal. For anyone to assume that their idea is better than anyone elses AND will be the chosen final shift/transition into upgrading the website is really pushing what I would consider being big headed or ****y.
I pretty much have quit bothering with this, as I think those who are best suited for the job should be handling it, but at the same time you really have to acknowledge the fact that just because its needed doesn't mean we need to be working against each other or being so caught up in demanding the credit for everything thats being done, because thats clearly not doing any updates or upgrades to the site for the benifit of the community.
Make your product ; in the end, somewhere, for a fact, you would be credited if what you create is used. Bottom of the website is where you usually find this information when it pertains to websites.
So being hung up on the concept that until someone says "This is your project and blah blah blah" , yah bro, I don't get down with that attitude. I'd rather keep staring at shit brown colors than being force'd into kissing the ring attitude.Remember your not being employed, your donating your skills for the benefit of an entire community, not to stroke your ego and get praise. Those are secondary benefits and are given not to be expected or requested, and if they are your immediate reason for doing this then your gonna come off as being anything but someone donating their talent to a community.
Please understand I really wanna see what you got in the works and I'm anticipating seeing something new, but we're losing track of why its even happening.

Hmmm, maybe there is a lack of confidence that I will finish. If so, I will be more than happy to introduce you to my clan and they can tell you about the absolutely retarded amount of things I have programmed for them. I think in the last 5 years I have programmed roughly 20 "apps". I even built my clan a clan branded media player that rivals early winamp. I assure you these big projects will come to fruition.

I hear ya man, but there is a bit of difference between stepping on someones toes, and yanking someone's toes out from under them for the sake of expediency. It's not like MOM was already programming up a better banner system, this was something that I declared. As a matter of fact, I was told that my idea was not a good one (sorta kinda) and I know that is not true so I am making it anyway.
It doesn't matter. If MOM wants to make the banner, I will step down and let him have the project. It's simply not worth the drama. I like MOM. I don't want banners and "feelings" to come between us.
I of course am still going to finish this. I'm just not going to spend any time making it work with vB til it is declared official that this is my project, always was my project and no one else is going to try to inject themself into it or beat me to the punch with something that I promise you will not be as elite.
I understand that a new Quake banner in general is not my project at all. This was being talked about years ago. However, the level I have brought it to is my project and it has only been 3 days of actual programming since I started.Last edited by MadGypsy; 04-21-2013, 06:37 PM.

A bit of advice for you both , even when someone accidentally steps on your toes, just remember that we are all sharing the same floor so its bound to happen. Hell, take note of the OP author and then notice how I don't mind my toes being stood on, it helps the person reaching for something (updated look to quakeone.com , clearly out of my reach) and I'm fine with that.

You are right, but I am always working on things that over the head of the people that I know. I have done tons of projects, used to beg for help, I never got any of that help I begged for and in that I learned to rely on myself. I became mega independent. It isn't that I don't want your help, with the exception of people that know much throwing me some tidbits that I might not know, I don't want anyones help. What is wrong is you should learn to work with people to "achieve" something... and accept to make compromises.
I was wrong to assume that you hadn't touched banners ever. You said/ask many things pointing me directly here... I guess you missing a big part of my effort around since couple of years... it's ok you can't see what I did you came a little late for that but the banners I've already worked like 20-30 hours staright before.
I expect banners to change periodically. I expect only certain people to be able to edit these banners. I expect artists to be compelled to submit banners all the time, when they see that their art can be put into a constant rotation. I expect the ability to provide nostalgia and allow people to traverse every banner that has ever been used. I expect for it to be incredibly organized and simple for banners to be managed. I expect to create the possibility of all of this for all of you. I expect to continue to be extraordinary. I expect to contribute with my strongest skills. I expect people to understand that I will not release garbage. I expect for my work to be extendible and stand the test of upgradable/changeable time. I expect much from myself and nothing from anyone else. I expect smart guys like you to realize that coming into my work thousands of lines later and insinuating that you will give me a "break" by creating some other similar thing of less involvement, makes me want to say "fuck it". I already spend every single solitary day that I have off working on these extreme projects...for what? Sitephyre happened because bluntz wanted an flv player. Some dude says "you tube sucks". I say "I can make you a player" and then I turn around and begin re-building youTube, from scratch. People around here have been talking about a banner for a long time. I see where my current work can create a banner from hell and offer to do just that. Why? What's my motivation? I don't have any motivation. I say complicated things and then I do those complicated things. If it is so important to have some banner changey thing right now, by all means feel free to make it. I'll probably ditch everything the second it appears at the top of the page. I will do this because you have solved the "banner problem", so there is no point in me solving it again. I also don't feel it's necessary to destroy your work or make your time spent, a waste. Also this wont be so big... I mean what do you expect?? I expect at most 5-10 banners in rotation... it is as simple as a advertisgin banner to me.
*"everything" = the QuakeOne access to the awesome banner content system that I am still going to create. Much of the work is making my Sitephyre banner content management system play nice with vB.
extra: you do realize that I write all of this stuff by hand, right? In other words, I don't use example scripts, helper editors that write the shit for you, premade modules or anything else that would force me to attribute some part of my work to anyone else. I also do not write anything down, draw flowcharts, take notes, nothing. Every single solitary concept and implementation is nothing more than a ghost in my head. A ghost that is written in 5 or more languages. I do it this way because it makes it VERY hard. I spend plenty of time trying to figure out what I screwed up...and I always do (figure it out). I took an IQ test recentlyand I was blown away by my score. It doesn't matter what the actual number was just know that it was really fuckin high (my QQ was even crazier). This is because I constantly force my brain to remember and know everything (even if I don't know or remember it - in which case I will invent it)
I'm just trying to say that my methods are time consuming, but I am accomplishing more than just writing script. I'm also forcing my brain to stay super sharp.Last edited by MadGypsy; 04-21-2013, 06:33 PM.

Guest repliedHey MadGyver you should think (re) what "help" means...
It just means to let others put some salt/pepper and see how it taste... now if you don't even let me show you and start to complain it is not ok cause it's not as good (or as complete/interesting/etc) as your "idea" well that's wrong.
What is wrong is you should learn to work with people to "achieve" something... and accept to make compromises.
You said/ask many things pointing me directly here... I guess you missing a big part of my effort around since couple of years... it's ok you can't see what I did you came a little late for that but the banners I've already worked like 20-30 hours staright before.
Since I couldn't really assit you in these condititions I'll try to make a quick project with Solecord (like in 3-7 days) and when your project with all the options is ready will replace the "simple" witht your "full" concept.
MadGyve I'm telling people all the time that "The most complicated thing to do in life is to make it simple"... I understand what you are doing but I might have this "easy" thing we need.
Also this wont be so big... I mean what do you expect?? I expect at most 5-10 banners in rotation... it is as simple as a advertisgin banner to me.
