    What a punk, ha.

    - Remakes/Reboots/Re-Re-Re-Re-Releases... Proofes that they just want my money and that they dont have NEW and unique ideas to make a game..

    - DLCs, Weapon/Clothing/Whateverpacks: LOLWUT... Most of the stuff was
removed from the final game aka. "Hey, remove that, we sell that as DLC"...

    - The "We need to focus on the Call of Duty kids" attitude:
We have enough of these "CoD" clones around...

    - Online passports/games restricted to accounts/"You need internet to play this game": annoying, and you wonder why the ppl are craking stuff??

    - Achievements/Trophys: biggest shit ever... "Kill 256 soldiers by shooting them into the left hand when playing online on the 3rd july after you eat 2 tacos with your best friend in your house - 200G"

or "Finish the game on veteran mode without shooting, reloading and moving - only farting is allowed - 50G"...
Yeah, developers are trying to make games like CoD because it's so popular, but then you have games that actually add CoD-like elements after the game has been made. Like Gears of War 3 adding a sort of prestige system called "Re-Up" which was used after the game's release.

And yes, developers will withhold content and sell it later. Maybe you've experienced the infamous Mass Effect "pay for the ending" scandal?

Those achievements were awesome, by the way, haha
Achievements (or 'cheevos' as 'dem cool kids call it) play a good and bad role in my opinion. The good? It adds replay value to games. The bad? Now people just want to play a game for the achievements to add to their gamer score instead of just playing the game, so it ruins the experience for a lot of people. Some of the achievements though... it could be as easy as just playing the game for 5 minutes, or as difficult as dedicating your entire life to do this impossible task, and both be worth the same point value.

Well said. That's why I love indie games, they don't care about profit, they just make great games they want to make, pure and simple art

I bet they'd fuck up multiplayer somehow too, maybe make you pay an extra fee to play online like what Ubisoft and EA Games does.

it has been posted tons of times, but this clip perfectly shows where the fuck it went wrong with modern games

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1ZtBCpo0eU]If Quake was done today - YouTube[/ame]

this clip was made as a joke, but its actually very accurate about how games nowadays are

or the achievements every game nowadays seems to have....
" woohoo i killed an enemy, i got an achievement "

There is a game called Xenosaga. You get 3 minutes of game, 15 minute cut scene, no joke, every time.

It was more like a movie than anything.

eyup. i agree, i also like that about games with little to no story, that you use your imagination more.

and yes, gameplay is way more important then story. same goes for overdone graphics too though. just look at crysis. looked pretty, but gameplay sucked cuz the makers focussed way to much on pretty and way to little on gameplay.

gameplay first, rest doesnt matter as much.
a game can look like shit or have horrible or no story, i dont give a fuck... as long as it has great fun gameplay

Sometimes people like to hide their lack of a functional game by drowning it in cut scenes and character backgrounds

"...yeah, the game is kind of repetitive and boring, but look at how well written the story is!"

    Then write a book.
For me, the story/plot of a game was always secondary.

games that have less story can be called open-ended, because it allows for imagination, or cheap because the developers were too lazy to make a comprehensive story.
