        >do some pushups and try again
You drop down and do 50-something push ups without breaking a sweat like the badass soldier you are. You look at the barrel and give it a blood-curdling roar. You grab that sombitch and put your entire body into it and....

...it still doesn't budge. This MF'er is really MF'ing heavy...and you think you may have pulled something....ouch

        Ray now has 95 health

Seriously. Forklift. Find one. The terminal said the complex has one somewhere.

        >Aggressively engage grunting sound
You throw caution and stealth to the wind, grip your pea-shoo...i mean, shotgun and charge in the direction of the growling. You follow the passage under the over-pass and into foreign territory.

Behind you is the passage back to the barrel
To your left is a lift to the over-pass
To your right is a pit full of slime

You peer across the slime pit some 75 feet away. You see it...a veritable army of darkness. Soldiers made of living shadow...dozens of them! And they see you...They open fire on you faster than you can site your shotgun. They're using weapons that fire rounds of shadowy plasma. One hits your arm. It doesn't so much hurt your body as it does your soul.

Ray now has 87 health and 50 armor

The shadow plasma seems to pass right through your armor. You fire back at the army, but your buckshot doesn't seem to have much effect on the creatures. One of them staggers a bit after taking 5 shots, but continues to assault your position. You run away back toward the barrel, praying that the slime pit will at least slow them down until you can devise a better way to destroy them. The growling is now more frequent, as they know where you are and how to get to you. It won't be long...your heart is pounding, the beats seem to be in syncronous with the BLINKING of the LIGHT above you.

how come that nobody goes "impulse 9" on their asses?
((someone already tried that. cheat codes don't exist here))

                >see if you can find more info about the forklift on the terminal
You go to the terminal again and open the keyboard.
                "/inquire Forklift"

                "Compiling date files...
                Forklift Model 32x electric/hydralic load lifter; made by Eye-Dee Mechanics. Patent 2008. Complex on-hand = 1."

That's it? Hm, not very helpful. You already knew there was one somewhere in the complex.

                >shoot out light with shotgun
You site your shottie at the annoying Blinking Light and fire. The light sparks and shatters, halting its sputtering life. You hear a grinding. A small door right next to the closet Flatbed was in opens up to reveal *ta-da!* Forklift! Omg, you've never been so happy to see a machine before in your entire life! You run over and hug Forklift. You grip its movement controls. It sparks to life and chugs in the direction you pull it to. Its not very fast, much much slower than Flatbed. You haul it over to the barrel and finger the controls to activate its claw lifter. You maneuver the claws around the barrel and press the button to close the claw, then press the lifting button to lift the barrel off the ground. The hydralics whirr under the immense weight of the barrel, but Forklift manages to lift the barrel off the ground like it was no heavier than a cardboard box. You move Forklift and the barrel over Flatbed and press the release button to drop the barrel onto Flatbed. Presto! The barrel is now mobile! And you think you know just what to do with it...

                > Head to the over-pass
An excellent idea! You grip Flatbed's controls and steer it to the lift below the overpass. The lift's automatic feature senses your presence and lifts you and Flatbed (and the barrel) up to the overpass. You see a small room ahead at the end of the overpass with another computer terminal in it. You push Flatbed over to the middle of the overpass and park it right on the edge. You head over to the terminal

"Welcome. Please enter your user name and password."

Shit, no one is logged into this one. You try to enter "Guest" but the terminal tells you that the Guest account is disabled. Hm....wait, you're a soldier in this military, aren't ya? You should be able to log in.

                "Username: Ray
                Password: ...."

Hm. You scratch your chin and think about it for a bit. Then you look down at your beloved weapon....

                "Password: shotgun"

                "Authenticating....

                Welcome, Ray.
                >Run diagnostic
                >Check email
                >Play DOOM II
                >Activate bridge"
                >Log Off

Running a diagnostic would only yield information you already know. You opt to very quickly check your email, but there is none. Not giving yourself enough time to be sad about the fact that no one loves you, you go straight to the bridge command.

                "Bridge extended. Proceed with caution!"

You hear a grinding noise around the corner, followed by the shuffling of several feet as well as all that ungodly growling. You run back out to the barrel and await your foes to come around the corner. You grip Flatbed's forward controls...

                  [[Continued]]

The shadowy soldiers turn the corner and immediately lock on to you. They knew exactly where you were before they even turned the corner. They must have known that you'd have to be at that computer terminal to activate the bridge. This indicates that they have intimate knowledge of the Slipgate Complex. They begin firing upon your position.

Before they even have a chance to correctly aim their weapons at you, you push Flatbed and the barrel over the edge. Flatbed lands directly on one of the Shadows, dissipating it instantly. The barrel lands on another with a big *KUUNNNNGGGGG*, destroying that Shadow also. You site your shottie at the barrel and try desperately to think of some cool action movie line to say. Only one comes to mind.

                  "Yippie kai-ay, mother fuckers!"

You lay down on your trigger. Buckshot sparks against the hull of the barrel, sparking a massive explosion that rattles the complex. You drop to the ground praying that the overpass will protect you from the blast. Below you, Shadows fly in every which direction, dissipating as they hit the walls. You stand up after the blast subsides. Only one Shadow remains. He seems incapacitated. You hop off the overpass and rush over to him. You grab at him and, to your surprise, he feels quite solid. You pull him up to your face and try to get a look at his face only to see that he doesn't really have one.

"Who are you? Who do you serve?" You demand. The Shadow doesn't respond. It drops its weapon, and 'dies' in your hand. This one does not dissipate, however. You suspect that it wasn't hit hard enough by the blast to be fully destroyed. You drop its corpse and pick up its weapon.

                  Ray receives the Shadowpulse Rifle!

It's a wicked-looking weapon, loaded with 15 of what you suspect are its ammunition. It's also light as a feather. You sling it over your back and search the corpse.

Ray finds 40 Shadow Plasma Cells
Ray finds some Mostly-Destroyed Shadow Armor
                  Ray finds a Silver Keycard

You slip the Mostly-Destroyed Shadow Armor over your Moderately Damaged Green Armor.

Ray now has 75 Green Shadow Armor

You suspect that the Shadow Armor protects your soul from the damaging effects of Shadow Plasma just as regular armor protects your body. It also looks really cool! You feel like a ninja just wearing this stuff!

You pocket the keycard as well as the extra ammo, then sling the rifle back around into your hands. You site it at the far wall and fire 4 rounds. It's a semi-automatic weapon with a high firing rate. Fairly accurate, too, far more so than your 20 gauge. You opt to use this weapon for now, putting your trusty shotgun back into your inventory. You look around the blast site. Bits and pieces of the metal hull of the barrel are scattered about. Flatbed lies on its side, badly damaged by the blast. You could probably repair it, but you'd need to find some Spare Parts...but thats a task for later. Nothing of the Shadows remains. Except for the one, they were all utterly obliterated by the blast. Satisfied with your victory, you stand like a super hero and think about what to do next.

Straight ahead, across the bridge, is a hallway that slopes down.
Behind you is the lift to the overpass.
To your right is the passage back to Forklift and the entrance.

((was hoping to get more commands before I continued, but whatev))

                      >proceed across bridge... quietly
You head across the bridge over the slime pit, instinctively checking the wall to your left, but not seeing anything. You have no idea why you did that...anyway, you continue to the downward-sloping passage. The area in here is clear. No enemies here. Down the slope is a very dark, very large room. In the middle is a huge computer. This must be the mainframe. Various corpses surround the room. You briefly examine them all. There are a pair of dead Shadows. There are also 4 dead Grunts, 3 dead Enforcers, and 1 dead ranger. You opt to check the ranger first, more specifically, his dogtags.

                      "Stockton, USMC"

So this was Phoenix. Too bad. He was so young, too, no where near the grizzled veteran that you've become. He doesn't have anything of use on him, so you take his tags, place his hands on his chest and set him against the wall. Whenever this mess gets cleared up, you'll see that he gets a proper burial. Now, the other corpses. The Grunts are all armed with 20 gauges, same as yours. Taking their weapons would do you no good, only weigh you down. Their armor is also a downgrade from your own and would not aid your armor count at all. Their ammo however...

                      Ray finds 20 shells (20ga)

The Enforcers are really mangled. Their armor is in terrible condition, but you opt to replace your own Moderately Damaged Green Riot armor for one of the Enforcer's Mostly Destroyed Yellow Combat armor. You always hated the color green, anyway.

Ray now has 75 Yellow Soul Armor

You also find one of the Enforcer's weapons still in working condition.

                      Ray receives the Blaster Rifle!

A standard-issue Enforcer's weapon. You never thought you'd get your hands on one of these. Usually, they have to be intigrated into your neural system, but you've jury-rigged this one to work with a trigger instead. It's a medium-weight semi-automatic rifle that fires short laser bolts derived from energy cells. It's not an especially powerful weapon, and doesn't have a really high rate of fire, but its definitely an upgrade from your Shotgun, and it's a nice alternative from the Shadowpulse for when you need to consider your ammo count. You stuff it in your inventory and stick to your Shadowpulse for the time being. You then go to pilfer the Enforcers' ammo.

                      Ray receives 15 energy cells

The two dead Shadows look like they've had holes blasted clean through them. You wonder how Phoenix managed that one. Their armor is useless, and you already have their weapon. They don't have anything else on them, except their ammo.

Ray receives 10 shadow plasma cells

You turn your attention to the mainframe. You approach the terminal and fiddle with it. There's a large screen with a keyboard and mouse, standard computer setup. There's also a USB port and a small, 2ish inch slot next to the keyboard. You still wish you had a USB cable so you could hook up your PDA. You start typing on the keyboard.

                      "Welcome. Please enter Administrator Authentication."

Hm. You....have no idea how to authenticate adminitration. You scratch your chin and stare at the text....

You examine the quarter and then the slot. You contemplate putting the quarter in there, but the slot was clearly not intended for currency and sticking the quarter in it might jam it up. You certainly don't have to tools or the know-how to repair a sophisticated machine like this one. You look around elsewhere on the machine for a quarter slot, but you don't find one. You then stick Phoenix's dogtag into the slot, thinking maybe he was an Administrator, but nothing happens. Its just a metal dogtag, no chips or magnetic strips on it...but you feel as though you're on the right path...

                                > If plasma shots don't do physical damage, they might screw up the terminal. Try shooting the terminal with a low amount of plasma. Try deflecting it somehow, to only allow a small hit.
You cap off a single Shadow Plasma shot at what you can only assume to be the CPU of the mainframe. The round flies straight through the computer's metal shell, leaving only very minor burn marks and some black residue. This doesn't seem to hurt the mainframe at all. The screen is the same as it was before...awaiting an Administrator's Authentication.

                                ...computers don't have souls.

                                > Find a way to scavenge cables from the enforcers' neural systems (if possible).
This might be a good idea. You look at the quality of the cables used to connect the Enforcers' rifles to their neural system. The cables themselves seem to be the right quality, but they don't have USB prongs attached to them. You opt to salvage the best-looking one and stuff it into your inventory.

Ray finds a ripped data cable

This way, if you happen across any USB prongs, you can wire them into your cable.

You examine the 2ish inch slot a little further. It looks like a credit card might fit in there. You don't seem to have a wallet, so you know you're not packin any plastic. Wonder what kind of card might work...
