  • MORE Lost Art Scavenging...

    I hate how about 99% of the links to old downloads are just plain dead, and nobody knows where the resources are anymore or who made them. Now they're scattered all over the place in obscure niches of the internet where nobody will ever find them. I can't stand that. I've salvaged loads of obscure Quake art in attempt to create entirely separate experiences for Rogue, Hipnotic, and ID1, such as unique armor, health, exploboxes, HUDs, and more. It's nearing completion, I would say, only the problem is the HUDs...

    I have a few bits and pieces of THIS HUD:

    This image was posted on rune central in 2005...


    ...but I don't have the brown "mainmenu.tga" style text for single player results, multiplayer menus, etc. And instead, I am compensating by using moondrunk's metal theme built for EZQuake. That doesn't fit at all, so if anyone can direct me to the bottom of this mystery, please try...


    Other than that, it I've searched high and low for ANOTHER set of icons for shells and nails which I've seen in several Direct Q screenshots/videos from multiple sources:

    (as a side note, is directQ dead forever? There is only ONE download link on the whole internet as far as I see it, and it's dead.)

    Finally, it still boggles my mind where I can find this damn rocket without the crappy bigbox image pasted behind it.

    And does anyone know of a rocket/grenade.mdl that uses this model? I've seen the b-box for it in Kleshik.

    Finding this dresk cells icon would also be helpful.



    These resources may be so obscure and old that nobody has them, remembers who made them, or even cares about them anymore, but I'm on a mission to salvage all this stuff to make the most diverse Quake engine ever conceived, so if anyone can help me with this challenging part of my journey, that would be great. I'm not expecting people to still have this stuff but, hey, it's worth a shot.

    I spoke with MH very briefly on inside3d , and if I had surmise whether or not directq was entirely done/finished , the answer would be no. He said something to the effect of that he wasn't ready for another public release yet. I am pretty damn sure the word yet was used in his sentence. maybe I'm just hopeful, but that is how I remember it anyway.

      This screenshot does not show MoonDrunks EZ nor Metal version.
      It is a different variation of his EZ version, but with brighter gfx.
      I have this version that matches the darkplaces menu on my harddisk.

      What do you mean exactly? You already have the icon. You just posted the texture. And it is not Dresks model or icon. He uses 3rd person contents in his kleshik mod.

        Well, first of all, that screenshot I posted was not a picture of MY menu as I mentioned in the post. The menu in the picture is a menu I am TRYING to find! I have parts of the menu such as all the title plaques, but I do not have the menudot, as well as the text independent of the conchars (such as the single player menu text or multiplayer menu text) Furthermore, The whole reason why I posted that rocket picture and didn't cut it out myself is because it's completely useless on an image that uses antialiasing. I've seen it independent of that background, and I would like to know where it came from and where I can find the ORIGINAL image before it was pasted onto that background. Regarding the cells, my point was the same as with the rocket. Where does that icon exist independent of the background? I'm not cutting it out because of antialiasing again.

        As for DirectQ, that was a side note, but thanks for the information. This is really the only Quake forum I know well, so places like func_messageboard are quite unknown to me. What people post there usually doesn't reach me, so...

        Also, still looking for the shells/nails HUD icons from the video.

          It is in Maphfus´ options pack as well. And stop writing about antialiasing please. That is no issue when you do it correctly!

          Well, you should. If you want to be up to date. Quakeone.com is a forum where all the people left (incl. engine developers) if you didnt notice.

            Sorry, I didn't get that from the original post...

            Either way, I never heard of Maphus' pack! Could you provide a link to his work? And regarding the menu, could you upload it as well, or tell me where I could find it? And who made this menu, according to the post, someone with the username Jozsef made it. I wonder what happened to him...like I said, the post is ancient. I've never seen his work on here...either that, or I'm missing something as usual.

            Did a little research. All Maphus' pack links I found are dead all over the place, as usual for old Quake resources! : P

              When you find them, make sure you create a public repository. Google drive sounds like the most viable/stable solution, as I don't see google going any where any time soon.

                Hey man I'll see what I can do. I find it sad how people made such BEAUTIFUL quake art, only to just abandon it and allow people to forget who made it in the first place. We can thank Talisa for crediting many forgotten authors, but even she didn't find everything there is out there.

                  there is more lost than you could ever imagine..... think about all the content created prior to Quakeone.com , back before there was a central congregating hub for the community.

                  mountains and mountains of content has fallen through the cracks,even after Quakeone.com

                  If you would like, I had setup a google drive for multiplayer Q1 content, you can use it as a storage place too if you like. All I would ask is you work within a folder of your choosing and keep Mr.Burns and my prior efforts intact as they currently are. If you are interested just PM me and I'll hook you up!
