Heroes of Might and Magic II

This is one of the best strategy/role-playing games I've ever played. In this game, you start by building a castle and raising monsters. The monsters defend your castle. When these monsters have enough experience, you can try to conquer other castles. In addition, there are many resources to find and many other monsters to recruit. There are so many maps to explore; you can even make your own maps. The game was released in 1996 but it is still very fun to play.

I enjoyed Hereos of might and magic III most.

Disciples III series is similar in gameplay though (it is a kinda buggy game in comparison to m&m3).

I also liked Icarus and old old pc strad game: Icarus: Sanctuary of the Gods - GameSpot.com

You can enable the grid, view during combats in Icarus. (very old game now tho) doubt it'd run without an emulator heh.

Yeah I made a thread about this one a while back, I really liked HoMM 2.

I personally couldn't stand HoMM 3. The artwork and sound design was total shit and ruined the game for me, especially with those crappy 3D models they turned to sprites that just looked awkward, and the sounds lacked the same feeling of reward the sounds from 2 had.

I know the gameplay was supposed to be better but I couldn't find anything that didn't annoy me.
