I found this ID Software FTP link on an old hard drive I'm going to reformat. Not sure if it's cool to post a link like this here, but just delete if necessary.
It's a list of shareware games that blazed the path for the best game on the planet as we know it, quake 1. Those like hexen, doom, heretic, wolfenstein, etc.
I plan on going home after work and downloading a few to play:

It has the source files for some, too, amongst other things.
