  • Did this guy deserve this?

The guy in the video was tasered for overstepping his time limit for questions for John Kerry at a university in Florida. Afterwards, it looked like the police did a lot of "show" for the camera.

They had 6 police officers there, I don't know why they needed to taser him.

In the video, the police said he was "inciting a riot". What a joke!

I think he has the right to be heard. I understand that there was a time limit.

His conduct was less than acceptable when confronted by the police. All he did was make is worst on himself. If he had a problem with anything that transpired, he should seek legal council instead of acting the way that he did. Inciting a riot?? That's a joke.

    I'd tazer him again...cause it's fun.

I will find you... it's only a matter of time.

no-one deserves getting tasered as tasers are some truly evil things that should have never gotten into your policemen's hands. That stupid boy deserved some slapping though for resisting police something and being a whiny emo.

You know, I think the guy was a emo and if you watch the video, he says some hilarious stuff "They're going to kill me, they're taking me to the government .. you can't do this, people know I'm here" and that kind of thing.

But at the same time, there were 6 police officers there. Not 1, not 2 -- but a half-dozen!

To me tasers seem like something as a last resort.

Plus, and well -- this may not be politcally correct or whatever, but watching it I just get the feeling the tiny female police officer (who used the taser) only tasered him because she wasn't really strong enough to be a police officer and possibly part of the reason they couldn't put handcuffs on the guy.

I mean seriously, that police officer looks like she's maybe 5 foot tall. Would they hire a 5 foot tall male police officer? What can a 5 foot tall police officer do?

Obviously I feel the fact they tasered the guy is a bunch of crap. This guy wasn't a 350 pound muscle-bound and out-of-control brute that is what I believe they have the tasers for.

It boils down to this: If the dufus wouldn't have put up such a fuss and resisting, he wouldn't have had to ride the electric pain train.

I can't speak for their police department, but there are requirements that have to be met before you can be an officer.

(beavis and butthead) Taser him again!! Yea! Taser!!

blahblahblah that video hurts my brain...i could only get a minute in. i doubt it was the U of F police. i went to a huge school with 30,000 students in the middle of a city of 2 million; the subway runs right through campus. i've seen the university police in action and they're gentle as lambs, even though they have to patrol some moderately rough areas, deal with riots, etc. i doubt the U of F police are any rougher. i watch the show cops a lot and tasing seems to be standard procedure when someone's violently resisting arrest. its a good policy. you can get tased for a lot less. i used to be fresh with cops too. then i got my ass handed to me by some lieutenant (city police, not university). a lot of political theorists say the state should have a monopoly on the legitimate use of force....fighting off police officers runs counter to that

Hmm....here's a bit more info on this:

"GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A university student with a history of taping his own practical jokes was Tasered by campus police and arrested after loudly and repeatedly trying to ask U.S. Sen. John Kerry questions during a campus forum.

Videos of the Monday night incident, posted on several Web sites and played repeatedly on television news, show University of Florida police officers pulling Meyer away from the microphone after he asks Kerry about impeaching President Bush and whether he and Bush were both members of the secret society Skull and Bones at Yale University.

University spokesman Steve Orlando said Meyer was asked to leave the microphone after his allotted time was up. Meyer can be seen refusing to walk away and getting upset that the microphone was cut off."

I still think the police overstepped their bounds when they tased him.

They have to try to arrest him before he can resist arrest. I think they will drop the charges like in so many other cases.
Kerry could have stopped it, but chose not to.
In the U.S. if you don't speak out you'll lose your right to.

they tried for what seemed like minutes, with 5 cops, and he kept wrestling them. if you think that he got tazed for asking a question, thats a hysterical reaction

Why did the cops (campus police?) grab him in the first place? Was he Taking too long so they turned off the mic? Or, did he not want to give the mic back? To me that is no reason for tasing someone.
