Well an unsuspecting friend of the family contacted me today with a request to go into a type of business partnership with him, he's an ITT guy and basically wants to push customers to me for web design. He's "alloted" me with my own server for which I'm able to do whatever I want basically he said and I quote "Here you go, beat it up".
While i've had YEARS of experience in webdesign and even some webhosting from my office PC I'm finding myself in a whole new world with the ability of this new server (I've only started messing around with it). Essentially our partnership is a "small webhosting company" which he doesn't want to make anything over $10,000/mo dew to once it reaches that profit point it would mean we'd need more hands to help operate such a business.
I don't want to say to much right now but it looks like I'm flowing into a webhosting business out of the clear blue and there's many things I have to take into consideration with this business proposal. Though it helps knowing quite a few people who either need a website, want a website, build websites and put work into optimizing websites it seems that fate has been lining itself up down this path for quite some time and its really cool!
While i've always been the "go-to-guy" for everyone i know who needs a website, this guy has been the same thing for his own business, only instead of making $500 per website, he made $7,000 building a website for a local airport here in BMFK, OK and I've never been to business savvy, my motto on business is "If I'm getting paid let me know what I gotta do".
But I'm looking forwards to this new endeavor and newly attained outlook on my own mini website building business I've been working on for a year or so now. Still the future is uncertain.
to put this in perspective for non-net-savvy people...
I got a few thousand dollar server to do whatever I want with, host websites, add DNS (like IP address = speaknow.quakeone.com), charge people for webhosting and even possibly run my own Quake server (Not 100% sure if this is do-able yet. Though I'm not sure if I would even go that route.)
While its still getting the kinks worked out he had an admin panel up and running for me within a few hours of out last discussion earlier on Wednesday and a "test site". He does however want me to build him a web template for his current photography company (He currently has a plug'n'play flashy theme now with a horrible back-end).
Well I just wanted to share some stuff that really made my day and came as a ray of light at a very dark moment in life for me (Its not that bad though). I'm looking forwards to learning how to become a webhost Instead of just a website administrator and forum admin!
