    • Ok here goes...

I'm Claws and I hail from Sweden. I had played Wolf3D and Doom before and remember reading about this new game from the creators of Doom. It was a swedish PC mag and they had a shambler on the cover. I didn't have a computer that could handle the mighty Quake. I was a Amiga user back then

The summer of 96 a friend of mine had gotten hold of Quake and set up an IPX network with a neighbour who lived a few houses down the street. The cable was hanging on branches, lightposts and whatnot. Quite the sight. That was my first encounter with Quake...DM! I was hooked and remember saying this is the most fun I'd ever had. I was 15 at the time.

I continued to play Q at my friends house, play it on the N64. Over the years I've played most FPS including the rest of the Q-series and the new open source ones such as Urban Terror, Warsow, Nexuiz etc... but no game has had me hooked lite Quake. Much because of it's atmosphere - a weird mixture of gothic and dirty sci-fi.

A few days ago I fired up my old OpenGL Quakeworld client and tried to play online for the first time in 13 years. Didn't have much luck. Found this site and started to read about the differences between QW and NQ. Downloaded ProQuake for my Mac. Found some nice people at bigfoot.quake1.net and qrf.mine.nu

So now I am in intense training trying to catch up on all those years I've missed out on online play in Quake. Mind you that I've always played single player Quake every now and then.

I've had some problems trying to get a smooth aim - damn Mac...good for almost everything except gaming A big thanks to Jer, peg, Loco, loaded1mbimage, luckyluke etc for fragging me and letting me frag 'em

To be honest I haven't fragged loaded1mbimage yet, that's my first goal btw.

        • I started play Quake in 1999,on HEAT.NET, mainly Team Fortress. I was 12 at the time and it was my first online fps. When HEAT died, the community moved to MPlayer, and when that died we moved to Gamespy Arcade. We pretty much lost touched when some of us went to TFC and others stayed on GSA.

My old handle was Zyloxx for the most part, Shurai or Koroshi later on. Old clans were sD, DM2, LTK, and the HEAT guild, which was made up of old HEAT people. Cheers.

I stayed on TFC for a while until TF2 came out, and still playing it haha.

          • Introduction - Psycho Jolteon

Hey, guys, I'm PsychoJolteon. I haven't started playing the first Quake until recently. Before, I was playing Quake 2 when I was at Junior High, I believe it was 2003 or something.

Recently, I got my hands on a Quake 1 port for the Wii, and I enjoyed it to the point where I was interested in playing online. But I couldn't get any of the maps from laggy IHoC Quake until Monday, but when I finally got them, I learned that the servers were, in fact, laggy, and they were abandoned. Well, occasionally, there's a challenger named "WiiPlayer" that joins and leaves shortly. Those "WiiPlayers" need to learn to download the required maps, lol.

Currently, I'm trying to figure out why in God's name I can't use non-IHoC servers like quake.shmack.net. I get a an error message that says "Disconnected Socket," even though I didn't disconnect anything.

A special enhancement was done on the IHOC servers back in 2003 for "older clients" with connectivity issues (single port handshake, like DarkPlaces server and Quakeworld).
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

if u do end up getting a PC, make a shortcut to your desktop of quake, and add d_input to your command line. That will smooth out your mouse movement.
Now i hardly know a thing about MAC's, or if it would work on a MAC, if there are even command lines in MAC's. Could give it a try, im sure someone will correct me if im wrong..

                    • Quake II Veteran, New to Quake

I recently bought Quake and believe it be one my greatest games ever. The top of the range in my libary of games include Dark Forces I, Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, Quake, Quake II, Quake III Arena, Unreal I, Unreal Tournament 99, Killzone 1 and 2, Grand Theft Auto 3, Vice City and 4. If you like these games your a friend of mine, if you think they are the 12 greatest games ever then your my brother.

Like I said, I'm new to Quake. I bought Quake, Armagon and Dissolution within a week of each other and looking forward to playing all three games after my exams.

Apart from sniping people on Killzone 2 or reliving great memories with 90's classics, I try to go out on my bike as often as possible and soon I'll be going to Uni.

                            • I truly started playing with Quake DS. Sounds weird, I know, but that's when I fell in love with this 13 year old game XD

Today I modded my wii and installed QuakeWii on it, and since it has online play I'm installing the quakeone map pack as I type this, so expect to see me soon!
