  • Awesome, welcome back.
I agree those maps are better than ctf1 24/7 port 26666

But we used to play every Sunday nights during the school time prior to summer, maybe if we push it, people will come back after they get their school/work established.

I'm currently the only coder for CRCTF Quake1
    (threewave ctf competition mode)...

    crctf.clanhdz.com is the place.

      Is that NetQuake or Quakeworld?

I think we should try to make a push to organize some CTF schedules again!
I don't yet know which type of servers are out there or which is more popular, but I really prefer QW CTF, original Threewave CTF, no extra mods, just 4 runes, grapple and thats it.

But considering the small community, either or would be better than nothing.

      • Ya its netquake, but i have a version thats compatible with FTE, which can host a server that both qw and nq clients can connect to.

            • Oh but I would love to see the hook-toggle incorporated into CTF... back in the day, the only way to hook was to share the same key as the axe. It was so cool the first time I was able to bind hook-toggle to mouse2!

3 years have passed and a lot happened:

                Still studying.

I've installed Q1 again on this new pc, god I hate openGL :S

                  • Well I guess I might as well post in here seeing that ive posted everywhere else! My name is Brad, I've been playing quake on and off since the shareware release in 96, also followed the magazine coverage of the qtest but never played it as the internet in Australia at the time wasn't really mainstream (and at the time cost about $4 per hour of use!) and 14k modems were the in thing at the time! For a lot of the younger peeps here - these were also the days of coax networking! Which because of internet prices is how we played, also because I was from a smaller town we usually only had up to 4 players at a time until we found the joy of bots!... and KillerQuake

Used to also do a lot of 1 on 1 modem play.

Quake has always been what I consider my introduction to real gaming - I guess it is probably more so that quake revolutionized the industry and changed how everything is done today (in terms of accessibility and user content), but did also love ID's previous games; Wolf3D, Doom, etc. - I will also add that I have not enjoyed anything they have done since quake as much as the original.

Quake also had the Cthulhu influences which is undoubtedly one of the things that made it so f*%@in unique!

I used to also do a lot of level design (none of which got released - again because of the internet thing)

My all time favourite mods/packs would be Slide, KQP, Painkeep & Zer (there is probably tonnes of others but them 4 come straight to mind when I think quake mods)

Anyway! On other things - In my spare time I also dabble in sound and music design, part time DJ at an Industrial/EBM club, do photography, I also enjoy horror and sci-fi movies.

                        • Guess I missed this thread...

Well, better late than never. I joined this place in early september looking for help but then found myself caught in the whole Quake thing.
I've created custom content for a few games before (SOF 1 and 2, HL2, Far Cry, Doom3, Kingpin, GTA3-SA, etc) mainly skins, but I've also made a few maps for SOF2. I am currently making hi-res versions of the original Quake monsters as you can see HERE. They're going to be for Qrack, but if I get enough encouragement, I'll make them fully compatible with engines like Dark Places (normal, bump and gloss maps).
Please take a look and remember feedback is welcome and encouraged. Hope you like them.

Check out my blog! And my site too!

                          • Hey Guys!

I'm a diehard Quake 1 player; got in some TF also and I've tried many Q1 mods.
I do texturing for Q1, Q3, D3 and some modifying.
I'm also occasionally online in servers. (Q1, Q3, ET)

                            I have:
                            Quake
                            Quake: Scrouge of Armagon
                            Quake: Dissolution of Eternity
Quake 2 (don't like that much)
Quake 2: Ground Zero (don't like that much)
                            Quake 3: Arena
                            Quake 3: Team Arena
                            Doom 3
                            Return of Castle Wolfenstein
                            Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

                            • Like many pepole that are actually posting on some Q1 related forum these days, I played it first time in it's shareware days, bought immediately after release.

I've never been much of an online player (Flatout2 is another story), but Quake always had this nice dark-fantasy-gothic-metal-mixture feeling, that Q2 or Q3 never had. I also liked Hexen2 for the same reason, awesome piece too.

Just recently, after being fed up with current gaming situation, which simply put is only about half-baked-tonsofpatchesneeded-crap, I wanted to taste a true game again. Real life is still out there though, but I hope after spending another week or so with dling more SP maps, mods and finally deciding which port is the best for me, I'll have some time to enjoy the original game and many other community related stuff.

But even at this stage, after testing and tasting some maps and ports, I would like to thank all the Quake community active members for the hard work and passion they put in their creations, it's fantastic. Especially some maps really made my jaw to temporarily change it's otherwise mostly stationary position, I would never believe some Q1 maps can look like that.

Thanks for improving and prolonging lifespan of a legend. Although legend can't die, can it.
