Welcome to Quakeone.com. I tried your engine out it looks like Darkplaces with some extras. Did you use Darkplaces as basis for your engine?

      • Looks like a awesome engine thus far. I will recommend adding support for MD3's though - most model replacements released use this format. So excluding it results in a huge number of customizations being incompatible.

Some of you have strong opinions about me as an online presence and the shape shifting of sorts in taking on many different names. I have strong opinions about a good many players myself but let me say it's only personal with a very few.

Over the course of 4 years my son quit playing this game and took on Call of Duty etc... with his college friends. I stepped in and enjoyed the game but in doing so began to take hits because of players that thought he botted or was all ping.

Whatever the reason I didn't like it and only now that my skills have dulled have resorted sometimes to the same tactics. I apologize.

But I do not apologize to certain players who made personal threats to me, to Brad, yugo and continue to create chaos and spread venom. It changed me and I returned the favor. But please let me share a few screen shots for old times sake.

          • Hi everyone. My name is Dee-Killah (like Dopa, I like to wear a pink jumper). I have met a lot of you online in Rune quake. It's great to finally be on the forum.

I do not use a mouse when playing quake. I am truly oldskool. I started with the keyboard only back in 1997 ish. I can't seem to change.

My favorite adversaries are Fuzzy, EZjack, Grady (most fun to play 1v1), Dopa, Hypno, SheepFKR, Rambo, and many many more.

            "Fuzzy!! Burn!!!"

            • Greetings to everyone. My name is CoolMaker[SN] and my clan stands for SuperNatural back in the good old days Fraggin'. I'm so happy to finally be on the forum with Quakers from every corner of the world.

I started off with Wolfstein 3D then Doom 3D and then Quake introduced by my cousin brother who is an professional player in LAN. After couple of days playing and got addicted and hooked so badly. Mostly I play online that connects to a server during my time was Robotics Dial Up modem 14.4k xD. Months pass as I improved by playing a combination with Mouse & Keyboard. I stopped Quake for good at the 3rd Install.
Truly missed those days playing with mp3 as background music. As for now I'm still trying to get it run on my PC

During those days my favorite player are Thresh, GuitarMan, Bong, TechnoShock, DeadSpeak, DeadSpawn and many more. Fortunately I still manage to keep in touch with my best partner untill now. Showed him some photos taken during those days while playing Quake! Shared laughter etc.

So here I am. Thank you so much guys for making this QuakeOne.com happen for fellow Quakers

Just want to say thanks for this awesome site, community and keeping the game alive =)

                  • Greetings to the familiar and not so familiar faces

Well, i actually just recently installed Quake 1 again and tried out some Clan Arena, nice to see the same map is still played 12 years later!

So i do recognize some of your names here, but others i do not and I apologize if i should, seeing as that the last time i actively played this game was around 12 years ago or so...and i was young!
I am now 30 years old, i live in Western Canada and work with an Autistic kid.
For the last 12 years, after i moved on from Quake 1 i went through an inactive period until around 2002, where i reactivated clan xUx (Unforgiven Gunmen) for Ut2k4, then for Doom3, then for Quake 4, and recently for Quakelive (although QL is pretty much quiet so we're inactive in that front). We also moved to Brink when it came out but the game, sadly, is dead :/

I started playing Quake back in 96, the pubs for hours on end. Exploring the massive stock ID levels turned into CTF style play. Around 97 I created a clan called ZEN i believe? I don't remember anyone in it but Intrepid, an old friend whom i havnt spoken to in years!
My next memory is taking over clan 420, as 420.eLeMent5, with Norman, Intrepid, i think wombat at one point? Josh and some others i forget...
After making clans left and right or joining ones, i landed into Clan RuM around the end of 1997 i think. I made good friends there, and continued to get better at the game. While i RuM i went by the alias eLeMent5 or Nothingman, and as i got better i decided to tryout for the Unforgiven Gunmen, which kind of extradited me as a Friend to the RuM guys - since a couple of RuM's former top members left for xUx.
Well i made the xUx squad in 1998, along side my HPB mates such as imptiger, shane, maverick8, sureshot, smoke and some others!

Some of the old crew i have had around throughout the past years in Quake games..for a brief period. Shane played Quake 4 for a bit with us, but i havnt seen or heard from him since. I had Wyatt, Lestat (Angel - Eyes) Jesse James, and maybe Nightmare around at one point. In quakelive Wyatt, Rodent, and Unspoken played a bit but not to much!

So that's it, long history of gaming and i guess staying quite faithful to the Gunmen!

You can find me on mirc irc.gamesurge.net #clanxux and in the #quake1 channel
                    Peace

                    • Pvt. Gerpsnot

I've used this monicker since I first started playing Quake online in 1997. The
first thing I ever played was DM but couldn't see what was so fun about it.
I soon discovered TeamFortress and enjoyed playing on the same side against
others. I'd camp the flag room as an HW Guy on the OLD SCHOOL 2fort4 map
where you had this long hall leading to the flag (not the one where 2 halls led
to the flag in the corner). Other days I liked to set people on fire (especially snipers LOL).

I've made 6 (very cruddy) maps but I still enjoy mapping. People tell me to
keep up mapping with detail in mind but when I try, Qoole usually messes it up. I tried to learn WC but it is very uncomfortable to me.

Ask and I will send you my latest BSP "Extraction Protocol", a venture into a
different kind of Quake level where you only get an assigned amount of time
to kill all 160 bad guys before you are "extracted" back to Earth, to be either humiliated or promoted in the presence of your peers :-)

                      • New user to forum...

                        Hi everyone, I'm Ktan.

I've played Quake since my mate bought the full price in store CD when it was first released. I played it loads at his house, and since noone could afford CDRW drive back then, I ust had to go into the shop and get a copy for myself. We linked up over modem a few times and played co-op.

                        Then times moved on....

Couple years after that I found myself at college studying for my HND, I lived on site in student halls. The blokes that ran the whole computer department were pretty cool and managed to convince the powers-that-be to open up the computer room every Thursday evening for a 2 hour quake Deathmatch sessions, I think they charged £1 entrance fee. it was always full (was it 16 or 32 player limit back then?)

Pretty sure we played a mod where you get powerups when you picked up purple runes. There was also some kind of First-Person-perspective guided rocket you could shoot, and maybe grapling hooks too....

Oh, and one of the guys had made a map of the College Campus, so that even 'new' people would instantly know the entire map. I still remember people shouting to each other across the room to their team mates "The Lightning gun is in the Girls Toilets in the Common Room!" and "Mega Health is in the Microfiche room" (geez, who here remembers Microfiche?)

Around this time I got into worldcraft and map making, I remember mainly doing 'concept' levels. 2 vs 2 DM maps mainly. I loved moving platforms, and player activated traps. oh and pressure pads where one team-member stands and it opens a door for another player to collect a weapon.....

Then times moved on....(all my old files were lost on computer upgrades)

1 week ago, I found this website. Darkplaces. DirectQ.

                        AND

I managed to find GENCLASSES mod again. My absolute favourite mod, it works for SP and DM.
                        GeNClasses

One of those mirrors works, all the others fail. I would love these to be hosted here too, to stop them from getting buried under the sands of time....

It (from what I can tell) works perfectly with DirectQ, and almost perfectly with Darkplaces (there is an issue with the Mages chain lightning spell)

I play mainly the Physic in DM. Just so fun.

                        • Hi, I'm Teflon. I got into Quake in 1996 back when I was 5/6 (dunno exactly) with the name "Teflon" (kinda embarrassing story behind it, but I still use it). I was a fan of DM (I was a DM prodigy actually, but this was before things like RJ and bunnyhopping became common) and CTF (not sure if it was Threewave), along with doing funny things like spawning 16+ bots in Start.bsp and watching the madness (which I should do again one day). Never got into the clan stuff because my dad wouldn't let me and I didn't really care for them in the first place. I got out of Q1 when Q2 came out and didn't touch it for years.

Around 2005ish, I got hit by nostalgia from playing Doom nonstop for a year and dusted off Quake. I only played SP, but it was just as good as I remembered. I've been playing the iD SP maps on and off for a few years (I've reached the point where Nightmare is my "preferred" difficulty for the iD maps), but I never got a chance to try out the expansion packs until they came out on Steam a few years back. I think I've played them to death as well, so I really need to get around and trying all of the neato custom maps out there that have been made over the years.

I've never bothered getting into online MP after I moved to Q2 when I was a kid. Once I get bots set up and the like soonish, I think I'll just play with them in DM/TDM or the occasional mod. I don't feel like getting stomped by people that have spent a good chunk of the past 10 years doing things like memorizing every "ideal" route in DM3 or get spammed to death by gas grenades everywhere I turn in RuneQuake. besides, I'm one of those types that likes playing a games on my terms, so bots are more my style, as I can do things like adjust their difficulty with ease and play custom levels that no one plays anymore or gets voted to DM3 as soon as the server loads it.

I've actually done quite a few things for Quake, like make a good chunk of the articles on this Quake wiki (which I really should update one day with better pictures and updated info) and wrote this article analyzing Qtest, so I've kinda done some important things that nobody really realizes were made by the same person.

I'm 21, and I'm still playing Quake (but not nonstop or anything like that). Quake is pretty much a part of my childhood, and I don't think I'll ever drop it for good. It's become one of my "essential" games, like Unreal Tournament, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D and others that I'll always have with me no matter what. Back when I didn't play Quake from 98-2005, I was still able to remember the Enforcer, (I think) Shambler, and gib sounds, so it's been a part of me even when I didn't care about it. I remember that I even called a kid in my first grade class something like "*name* the Scrag" because he was a dickhead and I didn't like the Scrag back then, which isn't something you see everyday.

As an aside, I'm one of those weird gamers that likes old-school and new-school FPSes equally. From what I've seen on forums, that makes me some sort of freak, but I'm ok with that.

                            • Hi everyone! I actually only got into Quake a couple of months ago, modern fps games just aren't cutting it for me. I was quite surprised how a great game Quake is, then I started installing 3rd party clients and mods, which led me to here.

For it's unfocused thematical style, it makes up in brilliantly simple but refined gameplay mechanics. It's that purity and lack of pretense I miss in modern first person shooters, which are all trying to be movies rather then games.

I've been frequenting this site for a couple of years and I cannot say thank you enough to everyone here!

I've been playing quake since launch and never really stopped. My favorite online place back in the days was the grapes and bananas CTF server. My other top places were the xsforall.nl servers. I don't play online anymore since I've become more of a casual single player, because of that and this site, I have a greater appreciation of the game itself and all of the hard work people have put into it.

                                Thank you to this site.
Thank you to everyone who contributes here.
