  • Hey there,
I’m Master Splinter, been playing Quake for a long time (Multiplayer since 1997) – MPlayer, EROLDS, RUM, and a few CMU servers (DM, CA, RA). I took a break from Quake for about 2 years and came back at the end of last year (2008 ).
In college I had my own dedicated servers for CA, and RA (Quake.TMNT.TZO.org).
My favorite game play is RA, but, whereas it isn’t as popular as it once was, the next best thing is CA. I’m starting to get back into DM.
    --
I’m kinda an eccentric player and personality… I love to compete and have fun.
My game play style is a little unconventional (high mouse sensitivity works very well with my trackball mouse). I have a few patented hot ninja skillz in my pocket with some stealthy defense and attack moves.
No fancy-shmancy binds or cheats… Just a moderate config file with tweaked settings to increase fps and the commonly adjusted settings for multiplayer.
My favorite client is Qrack, but I flip flop between that and Pro Quake.
IRL, I work for the Cable Company in the IT department as Desktop Support and some Systems Administration.
I’m a social person, so feel free to send me a message…

      • Hi guys.

I'm Nems. I'm pretty active in the Doom community (in terms of posting; I don's have any modding experience under my belt ) and have been because that's what got me hooked on FPS games. However, I've been playing Quake as well and I'm enjoying that as well.

I'm not exactly familiar with how some mods work, how to do certain things (i.e. keybinding for some mods), if something that seems amiss or not is a mod error or my own gaming stupidity (i.e. an issue I've been having with Soul of Evil that I'll bring up once I figure out how to get the Seal Of Nehahra movie up and running), and so on. That's primarily the reason I'm here, but I hope to get in on other discussions when I'm not asking for help on how to run/fix stuff.

Most of my time is spent currently as a Senior in Sociology and I'm looking forward to some time off so I can play Contract Revoked and its add-ons, Quoth and its add-ons, and watch Seal of Nehahra before playing Nehahra. (:

I'm pretty laid back and social, so I'm open to talking about stuff, be it on the forums or PMs. (:

        • Hello,

I've joined yesterday after finding this site via google. I may be one of the oldest in here, as I'm mid 40ties. Yes, even we still play games. Still remember Wolfenstein 3D when it cam out, it fitted on 1 floppy.
Anyways, Quake was indeed a whole revolution and I've been replaying it each time there was an improvement.

When Tenebrea came out, I started to replay it again. Now with the new skins, I want to replay it again. Unfortunately I'm not an expert, so I will ask help from you. (am still struggling with Fragger's skins, cann't seem to make it work).

Besides this, if any of you need some voice-over work done, feel free to contact me. Have done some for a Baldur's Gate mod and other games.

          Thanks

            • Hi! Let me introduce myself. Me used to be an ancient-time-Quake-player.
I'm the one who registered to this forum to get the information on a mod or somelike what has different characters in it (a monstrum, a sniper, a death-guy with a scythe, and a few more), got special weapons in it: monstrum has a hammer, sniper has a sniper gun, and some common weapons: first-person directed homing-missile, grenade launcher what makes a sphere what you can stick into, thowable axe sticks into the wall, etc. It's a great modification or mission pack or what for Quake1, I used to play it in public PC gamer-places (whatchagonnacallit) and whispers me a name "Quake Models". But I could never find even a picture or a few lines of it
Could you help me out with this please? (If not here than I don't know where.)

I hope I haven't been offtopic, just a little bit.

              ROCK ON!

              • Hi! I'm very new to the NQ community and I'm not much of a Quake player I gotta admit. I spend more time making maps and other stuff. Compared to 99% of the members here I totally suck at playing Quake but I still love to play.

I never played in a real clan or a tourney but I spend many hours playing Doom, Doom2, Duke3D and Shadow Warrior against my friends when we were quite young and we had no Internet. We would have our parents drive us and all our computer stuff to the house of a friend and play there till we got a headache or were thrown out by parents. I also started mapping in those days and created my first SP episode for Doom I when I was in the 6th or 7th grade.

I became interested in other things then and took a long brake from gaming and mapping until I stumbled upon GtkRadiant for Quake 3 Arena many years later. I did some mapping for Q3A and loved it. When I recently bought the Quake 4 special edition, it came with Quake 2 included and I started playing that game again. I also made maps for it ofc. Some months ago a friend who's into retro-gaming told me that great Quake SP maps were still being published and we found ezQuake while searching for them. I had a map layout ready on a sheet of paper and decided to build it for NQ. Looking for a place to publish the beta, I found quakeone.com.

I stayed here because of the friendly atmosphere and many helpful comments by community members. Another thing I like about this community is that people on the servers aren't childish or insulting. I play because it's fun and if people insult each other or me all the time on servers I just leave and play against a friend on my own server.

That's it. A long story that explains why I make NQ maps but suck at playing.

Some people who play Q3 or Q2 custom maps may have seen one of my maps before. I like to play 1vs1 and most of my maps are tourney maps. I'm known as spirit in most communities but I'll go by the name dfsp_spirit here to avoid confusion with spirit.

                • hallo. i believe that quake is the cause of all 3d awesomeness. it bitch slapped everybody in the face with a bloody axe and nobody has been right since. john carmack and crew all deserve high fives. i love everything ID and carmack related bc of this game. if i wasnt so stupid i would love to work for carmack. i love shooters bc of this game. i love games bc of this game. this site is proof that this game is an over sized ogre more than epic. i played this game as soon as it was released. no other game has made me go "wow" like the first time i used "mouse look". havent played this game in a long, long, LONG time. recently found this site.. and it has reunited me w/ my most favourite game of all time. a big thank you to every damned bastard that keeps this site going and or birthed it. hope to be tearing it up on universal server goodness in the near future for a long time to come. cheers

                  • Hello,

Just wanted to re-introduce myself to the quake one community. Last time I played was I think 3-4 years ago when max.essentrix.net and cbca was around. It was mentioned today that quake came out 15 years ago, which is rather mindblowing. Anyhow I'm glad there is still players and a community out there for the best fps ever made.

                      • Oi, sorry to be tarty to the party. I say this because I've yet to actually be a part of any Quake communities, be it one through four. However, I have been spending quite a bit of my time in the Doom communities, and the entire reason why I decided coming here was to get a grasp on 3D mapping.

Even though I personally prefer Quake 2 over Quake 1, I think that what I am aiming for will be much more noticed in a game that's held a tad higher, or so I've heard.

                          Quake mapping is extraordinarily easy.

                          • Hi, this is Rome from Germany! I have the original Quake version with the official Quake Mission Packs Double Pack since some years I really love Qrack! I thought GLquake was the only one of its sort, but Qrack is much better! I also wish to learn a lot about programming here.

                            • Hey all-

I don't know where to start! I'm shocked to see a Quake 1 forum alive and kicking! I'm actually quite ecstatic. I basically started playing Quake when it came out, and I played for several years (probably 4-5), even after most had considered it long dead.

I have always considered Quake 1 my favorite game of all-time. I remember being a newbie, always just playing around in random FFA servers (quake.netdoor.com and EROLS?), etc. It was such a fun game (and not to mention my first FPS where I actually learned how to use the mouse, and really play an FPS). After I actually figured out how to play, I remember being introduced to the guys I considered "pros". I met the darkside of Quake that really pulled me in and made me fall in love with the game. I was taken to the lovely world of ClanRing Deathmatch!

For years, I played Deathmatch with my friends, honing my skills in 1v1's on DM6 and DM2, and constant team games on DM3. (Greatest maps ever). Of course I played my fair share of CTF and Rune/hook Quake, RocketArena (I think it was called?), but DM will always be my favorite and where I considered home.

I doubt anybody would remember me, as I frequently changed Quake names. Most commonly I went by Knout or KN0CK0UT... Old DM clans I remember are... cK, DY, NBK, U4, X3, Elohim, and E5. Sadly I don't remember a lot of the others... Seeing as there is such a large member base here, I have no idea if I ever played with any of you guys, or if anybody here ever played the same styles of Quake as me...

Anyway, back to the point, I'm excited there is a community still surrounding Quake 1. To see so many other people who share love for the game still is awesome! I would love to get back into playing with anybody at any time, just PM me on the boards if interested! I'll do a little more trolling around the forums as well - it may be that you guys already have some servers up where you still play.

Like I alluded to... I prefer basic Quake or Deathmatch. CTF is fine. I never liked the runes or hooks so much - I loved just being an oldschool rocket jumper. But I would be happy to play any Quake mod with anybody just to get the experience again.

Through all my new computers, I always managed to carry over my Quake 1 (GLQuake) install just in case I ever had the chance to play again... so I'm ready!

Here are some old screenshots I have from some of my Deathmatch days back in 2002. On the remote chance that someone here recognizes any of the folks in the pictures (most are probably aliases), I'd love to talk! I wish I had some better ones of some of the official clanwars, and some screenshots with more of the oldschool guys, but I guess I didn't carry some of those over from old computers. Anyway here's what I have:

                              Screen1
                              Screen2
                              Screen3
                              Screen4

I apologize if this post sounds like an incoherent ramble. Anything Quake1-related can get me going on and on like a geriatric dude talking about the good ol' days.
