    • Well, I guess I've been on here for awhile and have never truely introduced myself. I have been around since Quake's humble beginnings. I have seen people come and go and established many friendships through Quake. I have 'retired' at least 4 times only to magically have Quake reappear on my HDD a few years later.

This is not the nick I used back in the day. I was always a big CTF'r and played frequently with the HDz/RUM/xUx/BM crews and many other reputable CTF players. My first CTF clan actually spawned two members of the orginal cK who went on to win many DM games. To this day, I remember them saying CTF wasn't challenging enough and they wanted to try something different so they tried out for cK. I chose to stick with CTF because I truely enjoyed it.

I decided not use my original nick nowadays because I had some bad ties with many folks and don't want to bring up iniquitous memories. Most of which stemmed from immaturity and competitiveness. I am more about supporting the community now and just having fun.

One day I may reincarnate myself to my old nick and look up some of my old CTF buddies.

Oh yeah, if you happen to see someone online under my IP who is acting a fool. It's not me! My brother tends to get drunk and do stupid shit. I am working to get my own IP so this confusion doesn't continue.

      • This could solve your problem! Put this in your autoexec.cfg:

        bind g "echo getogamer alias;name getogamer";
        bind h "echo getogamers bro alias; name getos bro";

Press g when you start quake and press h just before leaving! That way when your bro uses quake, he will be under a different alias hehe

                Welcome to the forums :d

I see people wearing ZT tags, who knows if those are the same clan.

I do see 1 or 2 players running around with Ck tags and I am certain those players are from the Ck clan you refer to.

                • Well, I started playing Quake around 1997, but it was always SP only as I lived in the sticks and was lucky to get a 28.8kbps connection speed on a good day.

Around 1999, I co-op'd at a small engineering company, and was able to talk people into LAN games after work. Soon, we had small 3-4 FFA games going, played primarily on DM6. Due to the size of DM6, we started looking for larger maps, but didn't really care for any of the other ID maps except DM3. We stumbled upon the great lost ID map, DM7, and fell in love with it.

I've never been a huge online Quake player, because even with great pings, the engine never really felt smooth to me. As such, my online FPS has mainly consisted of a few games here and there (COD1, Medal of Honor, UT), but I tend to stick to the single-player campaigns.

I've found that, in general, the attention span I have for most all games now is getting less and less. However, the one game that ALWAYS resides on my hard drive is Quake.

I do enjoy playing quick games with bots, and I love RA. You'll probably see me every now and then on the servers (under the names Brimstone or BlueWeasel), even though I know I'll get killed. I've never played RuneQuake, though, and that seems to be the most popular mod around here.

                  • I've been meaning to do this since I visited here, so here it goes.

I started playing Quake in 1997. I played on Mplayer and stuck to CTF. I used a microsoft sidewinder joystick, I was pretty sure that was the way to play.

After I broke 3 of them, I finally started using mouse. It was difficult at first but it got easier overtime.

Mplayer slowly died and I discovered QW. 300 ping became playable. I joined a clan called DofA and with no high speed options in the area I talked the Univserity into letting me use their computer lab on the weekends to utilize their T1 line for tournament games(Keep in mind I was 13 at the time, this was a pretty big accomplishment).

My dad was nice enough to pay for an ISDN line at home (Mainly because he had no idea wtf I was doing on the weekends). This is when things got serious in my "quake career".

I switched over to deathmatch and was a newbie all over again. Over time I improved, and was invited to put together and be the captain of the North American team for an event called Rapture99 that took place in Scotland.

I trained diligently for as many hours as I could, since I was on summer break from school it was around 8 hours a day. My training partner at the time was a relatively unkown guy by the name of nB.fatal1ty.

Long story short, the North American team lost 4 games to 5 to the EU team, and I placed a respectful 5th in the 1on1 tournament, losing only to the winner of the whole thing. The experience was incredible. Being so young and traveling the world was pretty cool.

QW started to evolve after this, and after doing "real life things" I gave Q3 a shot. I really liked TDM and joined a clan called sycotic Aggression. I played 1on1 a bit with my old practice partner and got smoked, as you can imagine.

After another break I came back to play NQ this time in 2004 with some clanmates from sA, bib and cabalist.

Real life stuff again until December, now I'm married to a beautiful woman, I have two children and a great job. Currently playing NQ and QW casually.

Haha! That's too funny. I've almost totally given up in even trying other games anymore.

The ones that are good will drain your life into nothingness as a time-sink (WoW), the risk of the bad looms large -- the only new games I play any more are console games (that I can rent).

                        I might buy Half-Life 2 / Doom 3 / Quake 4 off E-Bay for $10, but I'm not going to buy a game for $50 a plot "on rails".

And team combat games and such do not interest me; I tried them and don't have the discipline to work with a team.

I ended up getting one of those (as a Christmas present) and hoped it would be good for Quake --- ack!

In fact, it wasn't good for any game except games where you are piloting a Tie Fighter or something and those games suck!

                        • greets

I started on a computer at work in '97.
got my boss hooked onto it and spent many nights
after closing in the back office with dr. pepper and
half a dozen gas station hot dogs, taking turns
                          at the keyboard.
Have had the same alias ever since day one, and
now I sign alot of my 'work' with it.

I'm kind of a late bloomer. Now I'm in my 3rd year
as a graphic design student at the no.4 rated school
                          in the u.s.
                          I'm lucky like that.
                          I'm rockin' close to a 3.8 gpa. Don't know if I'dve
had the focus if I was tyrin that at 18yrs. But I still
know how to shrug sh17 off. I just spent 90 percent
of the winter break in a q4 server(super counter
                          productive).
My problem with q4, is it LIES. I dominate in it, but
some players just can't be hit regardless of relative
ping. I think it's lame netcode, or the Doom3 engine.
Never the less, it got me longing for q1 and it's fantastic
                          mp maps and feel.

                          'nuf bout me.

                          cheers

                          • My name is Legend. I'm 24. I'm pretty new to the forums. Started playing Quake a long time ago. I don't remember exactly which year but it was shortly after the game came out. I started out on the shareware version. I remember e1m2 when you get to the end room. When I stepped onto the floor plate and watch those pricks rise up and into the wall then suddenly the door opens and the first fiend lunges out. I jumped out of my seat.
I only played single player because I had a really slow internet connection. A while later I lost interest and switched to Doom 2, hexen, heretic, and some Rogue-like games. They ran a little faster and the new engines used to play them like zdoom and doomsday. I played Doom a lot. I especially got into skulltag mod for Doom.
I didn't play games much at all for a while because I had other things going on like work and my bands.
I recently got back into Quake and rediscovered the joy of it. I'm still only playing Single player at the moment. Deathmatch and such are fun, but I just seem to enjoy single player a little more. Quite a few good maps and episodes out there. Although I think I'm one of few who don't really like Nehahra that much.
That might have been a little long winded. Anyways. Hey, nice to meet all of you, and thanks for some of the help on the forums.

Have you played allthrough? I remember that I hated the first levels (ugh, base...) but then it got better and better. Just like Zerstörer.

i started quake originally back in 96 and played on TEN.net (total entertainment network) lol if anyone was one there, let me know my name was MAF. i played on that other one too with the red color scheme, i think it was called MPlayer, and of course QW and netquake, CTF, TF, whatever it was there when it all first started. those days were the shit as far as gaming goes. i remember the first CTF games, oh my god those were the best. TF used to be cool too, but then it got newbified for a while. toward the end of my quake career i was mostly just playing dm3 pick up team games, and dm6 1on1s. i dont remember what happened, but i think i just stopped playing. i got into mmorpgs for a while, EQ1 and recently WoW, which i just stopped playing because BC is kinda lame imho. im a cali gamer so if anyone is doing LANs in the central valley, hit me up.
